The price is great but the rewards are greater By Ana Martinez When you inherit a program that has only one re- tuming player, your success is usually found on the practice court and not during the game as this year's varsity basketball team proved. I was very optimistic about this season. l had an excellent group of young men that were willing to pay the price of working hard to produce a good program. They had a chance to develop and learn something new. The attitude and sportsmanship that they leave behind will be noticed by others in years to come, stated Coach Edward Joyner. Early in the year, the team showed some weaknesses, but outstanding players Ricky Gutierrez, Vinnie Rodriguez, and Jose Beiro helped improve the squad. Forward Arsenio Arabitg also contributed a lot to the team as he was the leading scorer averaging over ten points a game. 84 Basketball As Gus Alfonso watches on, Jose Mole attempts a jump shot that scores the opening points against Palmetto. John Maggio dribbles his way towards the Ram's basket dur- ing a game in mid January. Three J .V. players to help next year's varsity to win By Ana Martinez This year, the JV boys basketball team was expec- ted to be an exciting and hard working one, led by George Cirani, Ali Ali and John Maggio. These three players have the ability to become the best players that Coral Park ever has had, stated coach Ron Miller. Although we were facing some weak points early this year, later on there was improve- ment in the squad. Key players Willie Ciuash, Steve Trimble, and Tony Gainer. The team played well and worked hard, com- mented Coach Miller. Our strength was defense. As far as ability goes we had a lot of natural ability. There has never been a better junior varsity team. Their record was 10-12. They always gave 1001 of their energy at every game. With the help and support of the coaches, next year the team will be even just as good or better, Miller said. 86 J .V.
