Varsity Football Team ends up with 1-9 season record By: Pierre Dwyer Sports Editor The varsity football team finished their 1980 season with an unimpressive 1-9 record. Throughout tbe season, the team was ineffective offensively. The defensive unit, on the other hand, perfomied ade- quately, giving up an average 199 yards of- fense to opposing teams and finished 13th in Dade County for defensive average. The team's only victory was a 7-O win over Miami High. Raymundo Abdo's 144 yards rushing was good enough to eam him player of the week honors from the Miami Herald. Junior Quarterback Sam Smemo played well in his first start and directed the offense to an opening drive touchdown. Offensive Lineman, Mike Alvarez, was selected to the Miami Herald's All-Dade third team. Receiving honorable mentions for the Rams were Ray Abdo, and Larry Barimo. Linebacker Jose Terry was a defensive stand- out. Jose is the best linebacker we have. He hits hard and gets the job done right, said Coach Ed Hargrove, Assistant Coach. 4f3'f'4'?7 ffW Joe Brutto C745 has a firm grip on American quarter- back as other Ram defenders help out. Ram players rejoice after Doug Carillo's C325 touchdown put them ahead 7-6 after the third quarter.
