Business education courses prepare students for college and jobs By Alicia Cordova The business education department continues to be important in high school. l think every student should take typing in school in preparation for the future, stated Mrs. Mae Chewning, department head. Students are realizing that these skills will be helpful for future careers in business and for assisting them in pursuing a college education. Some courses offered such as accounting and bookkeeping classes dealt with the management of finances. Shorthand classes dealt with the develop- ment in dictation and transcribing mailable letters. Typing helped students to type term papers, proofread material, and secure part time jobs as well as learning how to deal with business transac- tions. Business education guarantees a good future if the skills are learned well, stated Mrs. Pepita Soto, business education teachers. P.E. instructors believe exercise and individual sports are essential By Ana lnguanzo Coral Park's 18th year of co-ed marching com- petitions was highlighted by new goals for new teachers, who encouraged student participation. Following the co-ed marching competitions, there came a time for students to choose one sport which interested them most. Students enjoyed the physical activities which were offered. These choices included football, gymnastics, and soccer. Pre-class, which included jumping ropes, pull- ups, bar dips and running, was stressed heavily to the students. This program, though sometimes rigorous, benefitted the students by helping them achieve a healther physical state. The Physical Education teachers saw the motivation in the stu- dents when pre-class was stressed. The coaches at Coral Park try to stress the importance of physical Htness and self-discipline to the students, stated Lloyd Parker, department chairman. ,41f!
