C.B.E. business students participate in competitions By: Ana Hemandez C.B.E. is the Cooperative Business Education Program, which is designed to train students and also help them to develop necessary business skills for their future. Students participating in C.B.E. attended school fewer hours than most other students. After leaving school these students went to their jobs, all of which were business oriented. During the past year C.B.E. members were selected to participate in the county typing competition and the state competition in April. By being part of the C.B.E. program l have gained a greated sense of responsibility and ex- perience in the business community, stated Presi- dent, Leonor Robles. The C.B.E. program can offer the opportunity to go out into the business world and see what it is like to have a job you can really enjoy, said Jacqueline Brown, C.B.E. member. Chess Club members hold matches in complete silence By Teresa Mykytka The Coral Park Chess Club met every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon after school. They began their practicing in October and regenerated new in- terest to raise more members in November. These games were played for practice as well as enjoy- ment. To play chess, you have to have a lot of con- centration and set your mind on this strategical game, replied Jesus Martinez. To bring more excitement and attention, the Chess Club held various matches against other stu- dents. All this practice led up to the competition against other Dade County schools for the district championship. The games were held in complete silence, contrary to most sports. A round robin was held at the end of the year between the top five chess players. Javier Martinez concentrates on his first move in the beginning of a very crucial match against Gables.
