Varsity cheerleaders promote school functions By Teresa DeFrancesco The varsity cheerleaders worked hard to promote enthusiasm within the school. The squad cheered at our football games, basketball games, volleyball games, and of course, pep rallies. Cheerleading is important, because we represent the school and the functions that happen within it, commented Randi Mannis, co-captain of the varsity cheerleaders. Cheerleading has always meant more to me than just the name. To me, cheerleading means friendship and the enjoyment of generating spirit for our athletes, remarked Niza Menendez, varsity cheerleading captain. The squad of cheerleaders went to the Youth Fair in April to compete with the other high schools. They learned some of the cheers that they per- formed there at the National Cheerleading Workshop held in late July at the University of Miami- Varsity Cheerleader Mary Penichet jumps eagerly during a football game.
