The good coaching of Karl enabled the swim team to have a successful year, stated John. l feel if we would have had a bigger team we would have had an even better record, stated Coach Karl. Some of this year's top swimmers were seniors John Villate, Mike Medina, Juan Cuervo and John Hardy. Girl bowlers win Central, boys team finishes second By: Juan Cuervo The girls' bowling team finished their season with a 56-O record, best in the school's history, and a first in the county. I feel I coached the team better than I did last year because I was more experienced and committed fewer mistakes, said Coach Harold Mandell. The boys record was 42-14 and they edged out Columbus to win a playoff birth while finishing in second place in the Central Division. It was an up and down season at the beginning, but we stiffened up and with a little luck we came through when we had to during the crucial matches, said Junior Wilson Fernandez. Nancy Kavanaugh was the girls top bowler with the highest average in the division C169l. Nancy also held the division's high set of 555, while Espy Femandez held a high game of 225. Jack Exter, well known as Dr. X, was the boys top bowler with an average of 188. tml K Junior Cynthia Mendez bowls during a match against Gables.
