Golf team shows progress, finishes with winning mark C By Jorge Roque The 1980 golf team got on its way Decem- ber 9 with its first practice round at Miami Springs Country Club, their home course. This year's team had a tough schedule when they met teams like South Dade and Miami Springs. This year's team consisted of one senior, two juniors, and three sophomores and we'll have to play to our potential if we're going to have any chance with the state title, stated Senior Mike Henderson, one of this year's top golfers. The team will have to better their 6-4 record if they want to have any chance in win- ning the state title. This year's top golfers were Mike Henderson, Wctor Fernandez, and Harry Fritz. It would help the team if more school spirit was shown for the sport. We probably would win more matches, con- tinued Henderson. This year's schedule began in January. if gm. Gymnasts show effort and sacrifice throughout year By Ana lnguanzo Two years of victory for the gymnastics team marked the beginning of a very productive team. Not only was this due to the fact that the team showed effort, persistence, and personal sacrifice, it was also due to the dedication which Coach Roland Lopez showed the gymnastics team. I felt in order to have a winning team they had to be unified, show personal sacrifice, and enjoy what they were doing, said Coach Lopez, gymnastics instructor. The gymnastics team practiced year round for at least three hours a day. Coach Lopez tried to acheive a well-rounded and strong gymnastics team by spending a regulated amount of time on each apparatus. ln effect, this showed clearly dur- ing the gymnastics competitions. The gymnastics team consisted of Tommy Yoham, Jose Carrasco, Scott Forti, Jerry Yoham, and John Lowe who worked hard each day of the year to achieve their fullest potential as a team.
