Varsity Volleyball worked well as a Unit and improved on skills By: Maria E. Cardenas The varsity volleyball team concluded its season with a record of 5 wins, 6 losses. Although we didn't play as consistently as we should have, the girls played together as a team, commented Coach Fran King. As a team, we did have our ups and downs, we did work closely as a unit. We had a good season. We won most of the games we should have. The team's that beat us didn't win because they were better than us, we just had some bad breaks, said Lisa Boyles. The team's season record was not out- standing but the team did play aggressively and improved on their overall skills especially in the area of spiking and blocking. Their teamwork and unity is what kept the team go- ing throughout the season. Even though we lost, there isn't a team that had the togetherness that we had, said Maribel Gon- zalez. Junior Varsity team has a new coach and a winning season. By: Maria E. Cardenas An athlete should be dedicated, eager to leam, and ready to win. The members of the girls' volleyball team possessed all of these qualities. Led by Captain Luisa Fernandez and co- captain Emma Grau, the team showed its potential by ending its season with a record of 4 wins and 3 losses. l'm very pleased that as a first year high school coach we had a winning season, remarked Coach Connie Arcani about her group comprised of sophomores and juniors. Outstanding players were Frances Gil, Maria Gonzalez, Luisa Fernandez, and Emma Grau. l feel we played extremely well. We were all close to one another and believe it or not, that helped quite a bit. Team work is an im- portant thing, stated Sophomore Francis Gil Coach Connie Arcaini and Valester Smith look on as the game gets more and more critical. 98 J.v.
