In loving memory of the man, the teacher, basketball coach, friend who gave his best to Miami Central High School for nine years. MR. PAUL CARIFIO Paul Carifio was born in Haverhill, Mass., June of 1918 and died July 19, 1968 of a heart attack. He was a graduate of the Haverhill High School and also attended one year at New Hampton Prep School for Boys. Mr. Carifio had an illustrious athletic career. He was a co-captain of the undefeated 1936 Haverhill High football team, and received the most valuable football player award as a sopho- more at the University of Miami. Here at Miami Central, Mr. Carifio was loved by all who knew him. He would always say, “It’s swell to be important, but more important to be swell’. ...and that was the way he lived. Because Mr. Carifio contributed so much to the spirit and development of Miami Central, the Vanguard Staff dedicates this 1969 Vanguard to his memory.
