Foreign Language The Modern Language department tries to give the student basic language skills in Spanish, French and German not only to meet college requirements but be trained to meet the demands for bi-lingual personnel.

Journalism In addition to stressing the purposes and produc- tion techniques of school and daily newspapers, JOURNALISM 1 helps students to develop quali- ties of character and personality such as: tact, tolerance, initiative, leadership, punctuality, de- pendability, and self-confidence. Other aims are to aid students in developing such important strengths as: critical thinking and the ability to discriminate between fact and opinion, increased sensitivity to school and community problems, and to the needs and rights of individuals, and a better understand- ing of the role of the press in a democracy.
