Journalism In addition to stressing the purposes and produc- tion techniques of school and daily newspapers, JOURNALISM 1 helps students to develop quali- ties of character and personality such as: tact, tolerance, initiative, leadership, punctuality, de- pendability, and self-confidence. Other aims are to aid students in developing such important strengths as: critical thinking and the ability to discriminate between fact and opinion, increased sensitivity to school and community problems, and to the needs and rights of individuals, and a better understand- ing of the role of the press in a democracy.
