For 55 dedicated young men, 12 coaches, and the fans who supported them, it was a way of life. Th rough seemingly endless hours of practice, and disappointing losses which dampened the spirits of many, the dili- gent coaches and persistent players never failed to put forth their very best. lt's extremely difficult to accept defeat with an attitude of good sportsmanship. But for the Chiefs, sportsmanship was the name of the game. With only one win to their credit, the undaunted Chiefs followed the Warpath to a Homecoming victory, finishing the sea- son with a 2-8 record. Despite the Chiefs somewhat disappointing record, football touched the lives of many students, teachers, and families in our community. lt was the magical force which brought people of all tribes together for a suspended moment in time. A moment of defeat, tears, endless endeavour, and ultimate victory. .3 D' .Ji 1401 Football PRACTICE . . . hw . . . is far from being an enjoyable or glamorous aspect of football. However, practice is without a doubt the most important ingredient in the making of a good team. lt'stl1e combination of exercises, and drills, and running, and running, and still more running that enables a team to function as a skilled unit . . .to achieve a common goal . . .to win. X . L W , . I 41.4. i I L. A Football I 141 COACHES . . . . . . are the carpenters of football. They are the ones who select the material with which they will work to build a precision entity - a team which will withstand and endure the endless pressures of a hectic season. A 142 I Football TEAMWORK . . . V -5 ' 'S s fs .. . is that binding together of heart, mind, body, and soul that makes football the game of strength and strategy that it is. As each player strives to develop his in- dividual talent, he also molds himself into a perfectly fitted piece of that intricate machine known as a team. lt's each player's ability to function precisely and in harmony with his teammates which gives the team that one attribute so essential to its success . . . Teamwork. Football I 143 144 I Football PERSEVERANCE . . . . . gives power to weakness. Emerson said, The power ofa man increases steadily by continuance in one direction. He becomes aquainted with the resis- tance and with his own tools, increases his skill and strength and learns favorable moments and favorable accidents. He is his own apprentice, and more times gives a great addition of power, just as a falling body acquires momentum with every foot of the fall. lt's the perpetual pushing and assurance that puts a difficulty out of countenance, and makes a seeming impossibility give way. For great works are preformed not by strength, but by perseverance. .. ft, 3 --Q nf 4 n .gg vm! ff, -- + g n ' '- 1 fm? Take care and stay cool people. Community I 319 Good bye. . . to the months when a deadline was something distant but approaching, but not anything to worry about until tomorrow. . . to hundreds of pictures scheduled but not taken, taken but not used . . . to the frustrations of writing headlines and meaning- ful copy. . . to the patience, tolerance, worry, hope, and dedica- tion . . . Good-bye to the never-to-be forgotten feeling of accomplishment and to the year spent in anticipation of this memory... As you flip through the pages of this book you'll never stop to consider the time and effort spent to produce it. lt's far from perfect, but we hope to learn from our mistakes. You'll never realize how much credit we de- serve - in spite of our mistakes - unless you happen to be a member of the staff. It is to these people that I extend my most sincere appreciation, and I hope that in some way, they have received satisfaction from this book. Special thanks go to Mrs. Ham for her coopera- tion and to Mr. Ham, for without his help the job would have never gotten done. 3201 Editor's Page KAREINVS KORN ER
