Dear Students, The publication of the 1959 Typhoon marks the end of a unique year in the history of Miami Beach High School. Limited physical facilities made necessary the extended school day -and some were Nearly comers and others ulate stay- ersf' Last yearis G'Sputniks'7 reacted in higher standards and greater academic demands-and re- port card grades may have suffered. In a sense. just to he alive in these stirring years of the worldis history is a privilege, but to be a student in Miami Beach High School means the 1 enjoyment of many privileges. Not the least among l these are close contacts with inspiring personali- ties: friendly daily associations with men and l women of learning and experience: an opportunity to work, in an atmosphere of encouragement, to- ward the practical working out of various proh- lems of life: and a share in upholding the honors and traditions of the school in classrooms. in activities. and in the community. Throughout the years of his high school, the student rarely appreciates these privileges to the full: but. as life in the greater community carries him further and further away from these years. he realizes how few are his opportunities to share the happy democratic comradeships, the intellectual associations. the loyalties to similar ideas that were so large a part of his High School life. This is my hope at your graduation time: As vour sense of appreciation increases. so may your . . cy cp feeling of loyal obligation to your Alma Mater f I increase---to increase the wisdom and skill she . H9391 gave you: to hulld up a character true to the ideals she taught you: to carry high her standards r into all lmusiness of life: to use your influence with i those who are still students to make the best use of their opportunities: to do any service that will show your loyalty to Beach High. and keep her hlack and gold hanner forever high. Very sincerely. Principal
