Q ,,T':X fi' gg Miami Beach High School - 067: ln fhe early days when whaf was fo become one of lhe world's mosi beauiiful resorf cenfers was evolving from a mangrove swamp. fhe far- sighfed promofers of Miami Beach realized fhaf in order fo hold ifs visilors and converf fhem info friends and cifizens fhey musf provide a school sysfem adequafe for currenf needs and elasfic enough 'lo grow and improve wifh fhe resf of fhe Beach. The Dade Counfy School Board could nof find ifs way financially clear af fhe 'rime fo invesf so large a sum of money in a proiecf such as fhis. Then if was fhal' Carl Fisher, pioneer and pracfical visionary, for whose mofher our iunior high school was named. advanced The needed sum of money for The purchase of 'rhe land, a loan which was lafer paid wifh inferesf. The original nucleus of fhe presenf sysiem consisfed of lhe elemen- fary and iunior high schools and was planned on a uni'r basis 'ro allow for any addifional growfh. In fhe aufumn of l926 'rhe presenf lda M. Fisher High School building was under consfrucfion, buf in fhe meanfime classes were organized and insfrucfed under fheir firsf principal, Mr. C. C. Carson, in an uncompleled office building on Twenfy-fhird sireef. Upon complefion of fhe new building fhe classes grew rapidly and moved info 'rhe school wifh a minimum of delay. Mr. Charles H. Hyde. Mr. R. L. Ellis, and Mr. A. L. Bowes served as fhe firsf members of fhe Board of Trusfees and if was under fhe supervision of fhis board fhaf fhe lda M. Fisher Junior High School was builf. Mr. Carson. fhe firsf principal. serv- ed from l926 fo I93O. Mr. James T. Wilson served from l93O 'ro I936 and under his adminisfrafion fhe presenf senior high school was consfrucf- ed. Mr. Sidney H. Ellison succeeded Mr. Wilson and Mr. Carl Wagner became principal in l948. Mr. Olin C. Webb fook over fhe adminis- frafive reins in l949. Alfhough one of fhe youngesf schools in fhe sfafe. fhe lda M. Fisher Junior High and Miami Beach Senior High School has already begun fo build up a sfrong sef of fradifions among which are in- cluded a number of annual evenfs of inferesf fo sfudenfs and communify alike.
