DEDICATION MR. JAMES MCGOWAN One who has guided us when decisions were to be made and aided us when difficulties arose has been chosen advisor of our Senior Class. This man's fairness, his keen sense of humor, and his practical judgement are only overshadowed by his ability to get the most out of his students. We, the Class of I946, dedicate our final mark, the Colophon, to Mr. James McGowan with appreciative thanks.

APPRECIATIO Miss Ella Rothermel It was with deep regret that the students of Meyers learned that Miss Ella Rothermel was not to be a member of our faculty this year. She had been teaching Latin and German at Meyerssince its opening in 1930. Miss Rothermel attended the State Teachers' College at Kutztown, and Dickinson College, where she was graduated as a Phi Beta Kappa. She also studied at Oxford University, England, and Jena University, Germany. Be- fore coming to Wilkes-Barre, she taught in London, Kentucky, and North- ampton, Penna. Her diligence, patience, and skill have helped many a student over a hard place and on to a better future. The stories of several European trips have greatly enriched her classes, and brought to life the pictures in our books. We miss this friend and counselor greatly, and wish to express our ap- preciation for all that she has done for us and for Meyers. S2 Mr. Christian F. Baiz At the close of last year, Meyers students were disappointed to learn that Mr. Christian Baiz was leaving us to become an executive of the Blue Cross. Mr. Baiz had been teaching history and economics at Meyers since its opening in 1930. Mr. Baiz was graduated from Dickinson College with the degree of Bachelor of Philosophy. He later earned the degree of Master of Arts at Columbia University. During his teaching career, he was on the faculty at Coughlin as well as Meyers High School. His fairness, his inexhaustible store of information, and his ability to bring the lessons up to date, made him an invaluable teacher. His under- standing nature and keen sense of humor endeared him to us, and his advice was often sought with confidence in his judgment. To have this excellent teacher and real friend go was a great loss to Meyers. His presence among us will long be remembered. SL? Mr. Joseph Powell This year finds our former faculty member, Mr. Joseph Powell, as prin- cipal of Carey Avenue School. He had been on the Meyers faculty as a teacher of Latin and English from 1930 until 1945. Mr. Powell graduated from Bloomsburg State Teachers College and Scranton University. He also did summer work at Western Reserve Uni- versity, Cleveland, Ohio. Before coming to Meyers, he was a teacher at Miners Mills and Coughlin High Schools. His clear interpretations and practical applications of the lesson have made our high school work in his classes infinitely valuable. Our days at Meyers have been much happier because of the kindness and help of this staunch friend. Although we miss Mr. Powell very much, we are happy that he is contin- uing to lead boys and girls toward higher goals of life.
