THE PEP IL IFIEIRARY AN AD INI THE PAPER Nirss Eugenre Austrn a yery well to do mrddle aged sprnster had just mos ed rnto one of tlae new apartment houses at 575 West Street and lrked rt yery well When she had adjusted her belongrngs whreh con srsted of many frryolrtres sueh as laee dorlres and crocheted charrbacks she decrded to become aeejarnted wrth some of her nerghbors Early the next mornrng Mrss Austrn poked her head out of the door to get the mornrng paper and tlae mrlk She encountered about ten newly weds sayrng good bye to therr husbands who were gorng to work All durrng the day she saw the happy brrdes eonyersrng wrth each other about therr Iryes and work Thrs of course made her xery lonesome and now she wrshed she had marrred Wrlson Goodwrn when he had pro posed to her about twenty years ago But she srghed rt was no use to brrng that up Whrle eatrng her dmner she took up the mornrng paper and began to read Glancrng oxer the ads she suddenly sat uprrght for thrs was what she read Wanted Mrddle aged srngle woman to keep house for a good lookrng mrddle aged man Matrrmony rn arew Apply early and ayord the rush Wrlson Goodwrn IZOQ I'orest Aye Gracrous she medrtated that was rn the resrdentral sectron she was rn too Poor Wrlson he was rn the same predreament as she That afternoon she put on her best lookrng gown and started out 708 Forest Avenue there rt was a newly burlt cottage She clrmbed the starrs unsteadrly and rang the bell Wrlson hrmself answered But oh what a change She could hardly recognrze hrm and she felt sure he could not reeognrze her Instead of tlae clean good lookrng boy she had known there stood before her a man wrth a brg red mustache and beard that stretched from ear to ear Hrs head was as round as tlae moon and he werghed just one pound less than a mrddle srzed elephant' She handed hrm her card He read rt and slowly reeognrtron dawned on hrs face Why Genre Austrn' Do come rn I neyer ex pected to see you agarn You came to answer my ad drdn t you?
