History The freshman year was a new and exc1t1ng year for us We may have been green fresh men when we started but lt dzdn t take us long to catch on to the routlne of hrgh school Thele were twenty s1x students 1n our freshman class Gary Arnold Rose Butler Karen Condon Janet Conner Joe Dunnuck Annette Flook Mar1lyn Fouts Leona Hetzner Gene Huddleston B111 Leffel Polly Le1by Paul Mc.Al1ster D1Ck1e Mallot Donna Martm Beverly Overf1eld Laura R1chards on Jerry Saylor Katrma Schm1dt Conn1e Shoemaker Barbara Sm1th Norman Snyder Betty Tharp Peggy Walden Nelda Weaver Carol Wllburn Shxrley Wmnmgham Our class was 1ncreased to twenty seven when Barbara Curt1s came One thmg we looked forward to but was a httle fnghtened of was our 1n1t1at1on The hlgh l1ght of our freshman year was the Halloween Carn1val Mar1lyn Fouts was our queen cand1date though we worked hard to get her elected she came 1n th1rd Our f1rst class party was a W1ener roast held at Lou1e Fr1ck s woods We had only twenty two students 1n our sophomore class Rose Butler moved away and Paul McAl1ster qu1t We had great fun that year 1n1t1at1ng the new freshmen Polly Le1by was our queen cand1date for that year One of our class part1es was a W1ener roast held at the F'ranc1s Slocum Park jun1or year was fmlled w1th many more act1v1t1es than our two preced1ng years We had the COHCCSSIODS at the home ballgames and presented the play The Case of the Laughmg Dwarf Conn1e Shoemaker was our queen candxdate for the Halloween Carnwal We had a skatlng party at Rock Lake for one of our class part1es and for our other party we had a ch1l1 supper at school then went to Logansport to a mov1e Our class was decreased when Martha Hoover and Jerry Saylor left The h1ghl1ght of our jun1or year was the receptzon we gave the sen1ors We used the western mot1f for the theme of the recept1on We went to the Ranch House a restuarant located near Mar1on Afterwards we went to the movre Ma and a Kettle at W1kak1 We f1nally reached our goal when we becarne senlors All of us looked forward to the senlor year whrch promlsed us new and exc1t1ng thmgs We were pr1v1leged to have Renate Volmoller a German exchange student wh1ch brought the total of our class to twenty three One of the projects we sponsored was the Halloween Carnlval 1n wh1ch Barbara Sm1th was our queen cand1d'ate We sponsored a skat1ng party at Rock Lake for the purpose of raxsmg funds for our sen1or tr1p In add1t1on to th1s we presented our senlor play on March 9 We were a group of happy but sleepy sentors who left on the morrnng of March Z4 on our tr1p We spent the f1rst n1ght ln P1ttsburgh Pennsylvan1a on our way to Washmgton D C Then we went to New York where we stayed two days On the way home we stopped tn Ph1ladelph1a and toured lndependence Hall We arr1ved home on the afternoon of March 31 Baccalaureate was held on Apr1l Z9 and our Commencement was on May 4 We chose Effort Brmgs Success for our motto and whlte roses for our class flower We worked hard through the twelve years of school untll we could graduate We have certa1nly proved that Effort Does Brmg Success O f . - I ' . . Prophecy Every tune there 1S a full moon the c1t1zens of Pebble Creek settle down for a rather uncomfortable n1ght for on th1S mght Katr1na Schmldt and Beverly Overf1eld two 1nmates of the Asylum For The Mentally Def1c1ent always manage to escape Laura Jane R1chardson operator of the asylum can never successfully prevent the1r escape Beverly has the f1rrn conv1ct1on that she 1S Paul Revere Katr1na stands watch for the Br1t1sh When she sees the Br1t1sh com1ng Katr1na hangs the bats 1n the belfry one 1f by land two Lf by sea As soon as she sees the bats Beverly hops onto her trusty steed g1ves h1m a v1c1ous d1g U1 the r1bs and gallops up and down the streets scream1ng 'To arms The Br1t1sh are com1ng But on th1s mght there 1S also another reason for alarm Yesterday the rumor flew through Pebble Creek that ton1ght Snake Eyes Snyder and h1s pal Baby Face Huddleston are gmng to rob Mrs Karen McClam s bank at m1dn1ght Sher1ff .Toe Dunnuck and h1s Deputy Tanet Conner are 1n the sher1ff s off1ce now try1ng to plan how to trap Snake Eyes As the hour of eleven draws near Baby Face and Snake Eyes slrther mto town and head for Roger Dock s famous E1 Rancho Casmo As they enter Betty Burton the barmald servmg tables 1n the far corner of the room and Leona Hetzner IS just beg1nn1ng her famous Eyes leave and move slowly toward the bank But as they approach It a group of men con cealed beh1nd Donna Martml McKoon s Hotel open f1re on them Baby Face fell dur1ng the f1rst volley of shots' but Snake Eyes escaped and was later seen 1n Mex1co w1th Pebble Creek s former school teacher Renate Vollmoller When Doctor Weaver arr1ved at the scene of the shoot1ng she pronounced Baby Face dead The next mornmg B111 Leffel Pres1dent of the Nat1onal Undertakers and Embalmers Soc1ety held a meet1ng w1th Barbara Smlth and Betty Tharp h1s ass1stants to make plans for the funeral of Baby Face In honor of the funeral the school teacher Polly Lelby Benge agreed to let the ch1ld ren stay home from school all day That afternoon Reverend Arnold off1c1ated at the funeral Peggy Walden who was Baby Face s former g1rlfr1end and Carol Wrlburn who 15 a famous smger on Show Boat served as pallbearers After the funeral COHD16 Shoemaker Mayor of Pebble Creek 1mmed1ately called a meet1ng of the V1ctor1an Gospel Soc1ety better known to the men of Pebble breek as the V1c1ous Goss1ps SOCICW Shrrley W1nn1ngham who IS lead1ng a nat1onal crusade for the 'Prevent1on of Cruelty to Dumb Husbands gave a st1rr1ng speech m favor of abohshmg men from the face of th1s earth Several hours later after all the latest goss1p had been thoroughly d1s cussed the meet1ng broke up and the women vxent home to enj oy a bllssfully undlsturbed evenmg . : . . . . . , . , . 1 , . . . .
