Several girls made crosses and bracelets from plastics. In ceramics, GIRLS INTRAMURALS The 1ntramural program opened last fall for everyone rn the grades and hrgh school The program for glrls was set up by Mlss Lemonen and student leaders took charge of lt At the top of our program 1n the fall came field hockey for the Senror Hlgh Two teams were chosen v1CtO1y Runners captalned by Edlth Shoup and Fleet Wxng Flashes captalned by Mary Feeney The V1ctory Runners won the season vuth much competltlon from the Flashes The Junlor Hrgh partlclpated 111 several games of Klckball The turn out here was tremendous Ruby Hasto s team the Jersey Bouncers walked away wlth practlcally every game Both Junlor and Senxor Hlgh glrls began the wrnter program wlth volley ball In the Senlor Hlgh the Sen1ors won wlth ten po1nts and the Junlors were close w1th a score of elght pomts The Sophomores tralled along w1th only two polnts The Junlor Hlgh d1d not complete thexr games but much sk1ll was shown among the glrls The basketball Intramurals th1S year were qulte successful Many grrls tween the Junlors and Sen1ors but the Sen1ors came out ahead A t1e xn the Junlor Hlgh was the final outcome The t1e was between Ruby Hastos team Blg Shots and Myrtle Armstrongs team each w1th elght pomts Badmlnton and table tennls brought out many beglnners thls year es peclally ln the Junlor Hlgh Margaret Hasto and Edith Shoup played od the badmlnton ilnals 1n Senxor Hlgh Margaret Hasto was the wmner and Edlth Shoup was the runner up In table tennls Margaret Hasto and Mary Roop played off the Hnals Mary won the playoff The Junlor Hrgh badmmton players were rather lnexperlenced ln thls new sport but at the end of the season Ruby Hasto and Elalne Baker plroved most able to handle the sport Ruby Hasto was the wmner and Elalne Baker the runner up Table tennls finals were played off by Gwendolyn Baker and Nora Huetson The latter won Softball teams were formed durmg the latter part of Aprll All teams both Junlor and Senlor Hlgh showed much enthuslasm One play day thxs year was held m our gym wrth Pulaskl We had al fast game of basketball wh1ch Mexlco lost and then we mxxed the schools and Iour teams Were chosen for volley ball Refreshments were furmshed afterwards by the Leaders Club The g11'1S bowling team was agam coached by Miss Lally tlus year The team held a couple of games agaxnst the women teachers and also a team con slstmg of boys Guess they never dld wm a game Maybe next year, what do you say, gl1'1S9 Archery held up by ramy weather brought a. blg turn out Many were begmners and with the few who have come out other years a brg season was en Joyed Although mterscholastlc competltlon was xmpossxble the gxrls enloyed thelr after school shoots Wlth sprmg and outdoor sports the glrls ended thexr mtrumural actxvx ties for the year Every girl felt satxsfled that she had been gxven an opportumty to enJoy the benefits of a physical iitness program . y - , . ' y BOYS' INTRAMURALS Th1s year the physxcal fltness program occupled the mam pos1t1on ln the physical educatlon program In keeplng w1th the program as outllned by the state department a commando course under the dlrectlon of Mr George was bullt on the athletlc field The course planned after the standard hlgh school course conslsted of a three foot vault a maze of posts an elght foot scallng wall a rope to crawl under z1z zagglng planks a broad Jump and an 1nc11ned plane The entlre dlstance covered was one hundred yards Txme trlals were held each dav wlth boys advanclng 1n rank from prlvate to general on thelr ablllty to cover the dxstance 1n speclfled tlme By the end of the fall season Ellsworth Young had attalned the hxghest rank wxth the fastest tmme ln school Along w1th the Commando course hlgh school boys played a touch foot ball schedule run off durlng act1v1ty perlod Four teams were organlzed At the completlon of the schedule the Crawlers proved to have the best team At the completion of the regular schedule an 1nter class touch football tournament was played The senlors walked away wxth the serles Durlng the fall the Jumor hlgh school and the grades partlclpated 1n a klckball league The w1nn1ng team was the Ch16fS Act1v1t1es were contlnued outdoors as long as posslble but snow and zero weather finally drove the boys mto the gym where the w1nter program of mtra mural basketball got under way The basketball program 1ncluded all boys from the S1Xth grade through hlgh school Th1S part of the program has the by the boys They seemed to reahze that the physlcal development mental and muscular coordlnatxon w1ll stand them 1n good stead ln the future The results of the basketball program was as follows the Senxors won the hlgh school league John Costello was hlgh scorer for the season wlth seventy nrne po1nts The nmth grade program made up of the Suckers Shoot ers and Colgate resulted 1n a w1n for the Suckers Robert Harvey was hlgh scorer wlth a total of 128 po1nts In the seventh and e1ghth grade program the Screwballs were vlctorlous over the other five teams George Dlmon was the star scor1ng fifty five points After the departure of Chlef Petty Offlcer George the entlre burden of the physxcal educatlon program fell heavlly upon the shoulders of M1ss Lelnonen glrls physlcal mstructor However vslth the help of senlor hlgh school boys she managed to carry on a full program ln the gym classes Drllls marchlng and calsthenxcs formed the core of the program wxth badmmton volley ball basketball and tumbling added for 1nterest The annual table tenms and badmlnton contests were run off Th1s year s champlon was Harold Wlltse The badmmton honors were taken by James W11ber The bad sprlng weather made for a late start in the outdoor program As soon as the field was dry enough to permit play our soft ball games between teams m the Junlor hxgh and baseball games ID the senxor hxgh In summmg up thls rather hectic season filled wlth dlffrcultxes we must glve the athletic department much credlt A commendable program was mam tamed and MACS boys were not oenled the many benefits from competltxve sports 1 ' 1 lv Y r - V V ' v A - , . , widest appeal and each day's game was looked forward to with great eagerness ..
