Besides being a two-year letterman and 1950 Co-Captain, Harold was named to the All-District team at a guard position. Thomas was a double-duty man who switched to a guard posi- tion when Mexia was on the defense. Thomas is a two-year letterman and has completed his eligibility. BUCK CANNON-140 pound sen- ior quarterback, was one of the best ball handlers in the district. Buck's good punting also kept Mexia out of Q I L BOBBY DUKE-155 pound two- year All-District halfback, was the heart and soul of the Mexia offense. Because of his superior speed, Bob was the workhorse of the backfield, carrying the ball half the time. DICK EDWARDS-Pint size senior halfhack, was one of the most ag- gressive men on the 1950 squad. Lack of size and experience kept LOUIE MASTERS - 165 pound guard, was an extremely aggressive defensive player. With more experi- ence, Louie would have had a good chance to play on the first team. This was Louie's first year to letter and he finished his eligibility. JOE DAVIS THORNTON -- 190 pound tackle, won his first letter this year while completing his eligibility. Like so many of Mexia's substitute linemen, joe lacked the necessary experience to play first string, Dick from playing a great deal, but when he played he gave everything he had. This was Dick's first year to letter. I 9 ? ' -,- EDDIE HENDERSON-160 pound junior guard, was one of the stal- warts in the Mexia line. By his good performances on both offense and defense, Eddie earned Honorable Mention on the All-District team. This was Eddie's second year to letter and he will be back in 1951. -4-......,,A RONNIE BURROXVS - Converted guard, developed into a hackfield ace before the end of the 1950 sea- son. Ronnie continued his brilliant defensive play and was named to the second All-District team, He has lettered two years and will return next year. Fw!! i J r whiz 1 DONNIE SAWYERf151J pound quarterback, developed rapidly dur- ing the 1950 season, and shared the first-string quarterback duties. Don- nie is a good ball handler and should develop into a good passer. This is his first year to letter and he will return for the 1951 season. 4 gli., EUGENE YARBROUGH --- 180 pound offensive tackle, switched to end when Mexia was on the defen- sive. He played both positions very well and helps brighten the outlook for the 1951 season, This was Eua genes second year to letter. Qs Q qrvlfh. EDDIE CANNON-The toe, needs no introduction to Mexia football fans. He kicked Mexia into the state finals in 1949, and his extra point against Hearne won the 1950 district crown for Mexia. Eddie is an ex- tremely good runner and he bright- ens the outlook for the 1951 season. mA Y 5 -I f 4 . BILLY MILLER-150 pound junior halfback, is another of the fine pros- pects that returns to Mexia High for the 1951 season. Despite fre- quent injuries, Billy played a great deal of the time this year. This was his first year to letter. ..v , 'X 'iii I ia CHARLES GUNN-185 pound jun- ior tackle, was valuable to the team because of his ability to fill any vacancy in the Mexia line. He played his best game against Franklin. Charles has speed and size and should be a good tackle in 1951. -- H J. W. CLINE-155 pound sopho- more end, worked himself into a starting position before mid-season of 1950. J. W. is very fast and a good pass receiver. Big things are expected of him before he finishes his eligibility. ,gn-. 49-eq JAMES WIGGINS-A 175 pound center, is another of the group of fine sophomores from which so much is expected. james played a good bit this year and with experience should be a great center. This was his first year to letter. LARRY XVADLE--'Sophomore end, plays defense well and is a good pass receiver. Larry should, with ex- perience, become a fine end, This was his first year to letter.
