Class History In the fall of 1940, twenty-three pupils entered the Metz School first grade. Some Some were frightened, some happy, and some indifferent to the situation. Of these twenty-three, seven have remained to graduate with our class of 5Z , There have been some additions and subtractions through the years. Those who started in the first grade and have remained with us are: Donald Dirr, Helen Eddy, Shirley Mote, Gloria Musser, Sanford Porter, Alice Williams, and June Winters. Paul Oliver and Jim Eyster entered sometime during our first year and are still in our class. Our grade teachers were! Miss Mainland, Mrs. Carol QEysterl Coffman, Mrs. Theda Chapman, Mrs. Fern Hand, Mr. Carlton Bates, and Mr. Clarence Dirrim. Next came high school! Naturally, we were all excited about this new adventure. We were wondering what the Sophomores were going to do with us for initiation, and-,, we had all sorts of terrible things dreamed up. We were really fooled though, because we were not initiated. The Sophomores gave a nice party for us at the school, com- plete with hot dogs and cokes. The members of our Freshman Class were: Donald Dirr, Helen Eddy, Jim Eyster, Jack Graves, Grace Haddix, Gloria Harmon, Shirley Mote, Gloria Musser, Paul Oliver, Sanford Porter, Dale Snyder, James Stultz, Alice Williams, and June Winters. Our sponsor was Miss Frances Hutson, who is now Mrs. Kincaid. During our Freshman year, there were students from our class participating on the newspaper staff, boys' basketball teams, the glee club, and in the Halloween Carnival. In addition to these extra-curricular activities, of course, we had to struggle with our school subjects. The first thing we thought of when we entered our Sophomore year was getting to initiate the Freshmen. We did a good job of initiating them, including everything from lipstick to walking on soupy macaroni. The changes in our roll call this year were: Betty Mocherman had entered, Gloria Harmon and Dale Snyder had left the class. Gloria moved to Pleasant Lake. Our Sophomore sponsor was Mrs. Gingher. Our principal that year was Mr. Russell Ratliff. Everything went along well during the year. We were able to enrich our treasury by having two skating parties. Our Junior year was the year toward which we had been looking. The first thing to do was to elect a sponsor and we selected Mr. Dale Goon. We had a new student enter our class this year - James Walkup came from Coldwater, Michigan. A few weeks after school 'started, Grace Haddix moved to Adrian, Michigan. We found our- selves quite busy ordering class rings, deciding on a play and planning for the Junior- Senior Prom. With the help of Mr. Goon we finally made it through our play called, Look Out, Lizzie! Our prom was held at Potowatomi Inn. All the schools of the county went together and we had a very nice time. Our principal during our Junior year was Mr. E. W. Mills. Now, at long last, we are Seniors. Those who have weathered the storm and expect to graduate from Metz High School in May, 1952 are: Donald Dirr, Helen Eddy, James Eyster, Shirley Mote, Gloria Musser, Paul Oliver, Sanford Porter, James Stultz, James Walkup, Alice Williams, and June Winters. Our officers this year are: Donald Dirr, Presidentg Shirley Mote, Vice-Presidentg Alice Williams, Secretaryg and Helen Eddy, Treasurer. Our sponsor is our principal, Mr. Maurice Roush. During the year we have been busy with ordering graduation gowns etc. During the first semester we gave our Senior Play, Beginner's Luck . We have made additional money for our treasury by the sponsoring of a skating party and the selling of magazine subscriptions and have hopes of ending the year with money left in the treasury. We know not what the future holds for us, but we hope the years to come will be as pleasant as the years spent at our beloved school, Metz. :im:7B:TiWM5n. TE- JFJKZ F '7?Z I
