' ' 'ff ' , . 1 - ' -'L,.,5,L,iu:Y ,9,,44,FAg1.,.l-,-25,11 UHISTORX OF THE SENIOR CLASSH ' We, the members of the Senior class, hesitate as we stand at the top of the hill, With SOarOely a step to be taken toward the goal which we see outlined in the hazy future. That which we see in our dreams is called a diploma. With our diplomas well on the way we take time to look back over our years in Metz High School: On the third day of September, l945, sixteen very green Freshmen marched.up the steps to enter high school. They were Izetta Shirk, Wayne WeStGPhOld, Jessie Morris, Beverly Weddle, Bert Heathman, Gail Myers, Richard Johnson, Delores McCormick, Lewis Buhr, Elnora Maus, Frances Nicholson, Ernest Brown, Jean Miller, Norma Barker, Betty Bingle, and Nellie Chrisenbery. Later in the year Peggy Tough, Mary Ochs, and Audrey Payne joined us. The second year we lost Jean, Norma, and Richard, and again we chose Mrs. Faye Fisher as our sponsor. We began our third year without Gail and Jessie. Our class sponsor was Mrs. Maxine Wilson. We Juniors took the Seniors on a wonderful trip to Bagnell Dam and Jefferson City. The senior year we gained Gall Myers back again, but the Wedding Bells beckoned and we lost Mary and Izetta. With 15 members we marched out into the grand old world to start an entirely different life. So give us room in the great battle of life and death, for we only can win who daily march forward and never give ln. Now one and all we lift our voices in loud accent. Rah! Rah! Rah! Senior Class of 1949. SENIOR CLASS POEM 'If we could lift the curtain That leads into the past, When our school days are over And we stand alone at last. We would see that the long years That we spent in Metz High Held not the hardships that we thought, But good times for you and I. It held to usya helping hand To steady us along So when we go out into the world We would know right from wrong. 'Every lesson, every recitation That was taught along the way Helped us build a strong foundation, Puts us where we are today. I 10 If we could lift the curtain On our lives which seems to be so small, We would want to gaze forever Never more to let it fall. , For when we leave our school- days To see what our future holds in store, We will want to turn our foot- steps And go back to them once more. So let us take our future place Among the hurried throng That we may do our little bit' And help the world along. So when we have old and feeble grown And people pass us by They'll say, HHe was a great success, He came from Metz H1gh.H
