America lakes i+s spor+ seriously and Melro cannol do less. Merro is coming of age. Nol only are we becoming known for our academic and vocafional achievemenls, buf, under 'rhe guidance of Mr. Harold Barr, Chairman of +he Healrh Educalion Depar+men+, Melro is growing info a full-fledged a+hle+ic school wilh a firsl'-rafe baskefball feam, and, perhaps, foofball, +rack and +ennis 'reams in +he offing. The sporling year s+ar+ed off unpropi+iously. Mr. Koslan, as a re- sull' of fhe pressure of work, had lo resign as coach of +he Baskelball Team. His shoes, however, were soon ably filled by Mr. Weissberger who look 'rhe ma+erial ai' hand and molded if in+o a powerful quin're'r +ha+ lhrearened 'ro 'rake 'Phe League Championship. The combina+ion was sparked by Dan Sandler, one of 'rhe ablesf nelmen in The cify. Despife promising prediclions, fhe Melro Five look a selback when il' was bealen by Woodrow Wilson, 43-33, allhough 'rhe home +eam our- scored lhe viclors in 1'he lasl' half of +he game. ln +he nexl conl'es+, Aulo- mo+ive Trades, Ci+y Champs, shellacked 'rhe Mefro Varsily +o +he 'lune of 57-28. ln lhe fhird game of l'he season, Easl' New York nosed ou+ Doc Weisberger's aggregalion by one poinl, 29-28. Afler The Easf New York fussle, Melro began 'ro hi+ Hs slride and friumphed over Chelsea Vocalional in an easy 27-20 vicfory. Wilh several con+es+s slill 'ro be decided, Me+ro is scheduled, according +o fhe smarl' money guys, +o win 'rhe remaining games and wind up +he season wilh only fhree losses.
