The group, under the guidonce of Mr. Tom Shoy,focultyc1dvisor, held its first meeting in lote sum- mer in order to mop out the upcoming yeor's octivities ondto evoke interest ond enthusiasm in the student body of Junior College. As o coordinating com- mittee, it orgonized ond partici- pated in o student orientation day in early autumn before en- rollment, encouroged the publi- cation ofa yeorbook, planned the foll coke donce ond the mid- winter dance. The Committee consisted of both freshmen ond sophomores and was the successful coordi- noting body between the odmin- istrotion and the student body lt was the desire of the com- mittee members to be of service to the school ond student body. We Use Up those 'pare Moments! Outstanding students were honored by election to Phi Theta Kappa, the national Junior College honorary so- ciety. Not merely an honor society,the organization also hasaservice function, including publication of the student directory. Officers: Jim Rising, pres., Don Schoonover, Vice-Pres., Mimi Thomas, Sec., Tarvi Hermann, Treas., Jim Hake, l-list., Sponsor -- Mr. John Gazda. Student N.E.A. served future educa- tors in a variety offunctions. ln addition to monthly meetings featuring guest speakers, the organization participated in the state teacher's convention, held parties and picnics, and provided spe- cial services for college events. Offi- cers: Barbara McGinnis-pres., Hortense Gains-vice-pres., Christie l-lill-treas. Sponsors: Dr. Elizabeth Berry, Dr. Kleta Finley. The Folksinging group andthe Chess Club were two active extra-curricular groups. Neither group elected officers. However, special credit should go to Shirley Agronin, organizer ofthe Chess Club, and to Emmy Kraemer,organizer of the Folksinaing group. Top Photo: A few members of the Kappa Tau Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the national iunior college honor society, are seen turning in and checking out copies of the second edition ofthe Student Directory which they published this year.
