In Sunburst '62, the staff has sought to present a pictorial
history of the current school year, up to the deadline
for final copy. Not every Junior College person and
event has been recorded in this book, but the staff has
honestly made every attempt to present as complete a
group of pictures as time allowed. The arrangement is
chronological, beginning with enrollment, and ending
with pictures of members of the class of '62,
Enrollment, often considered the bane of collegiate life,
is of course necessary each semester before students
and faculty can get on with the business oflearning.

Known to French-speaking students

they stuffed themselves on American

Among the most active of Junior
College organizations was the Political
Science Club -- and certainly its meet-
ings were the most talked about. This
group of enthusiastic and energetic
men and women met weekly, and at
least twice a month they entertained
guest speakers. A primary purpose of
the club was to enable its members to
hear first hand the opinions of persons
representing a variety of community
and political viewpoints. The guest
speakers included, among others, Rep-
resentative Richard Bolling, a local
editor, a representative of the John
Birch Society, a widely-known local
broadcaster, and Dr. Josef Von Addle-
hofer lreally Lt. Joe Adelman of the
Police Departmentl, who combined in-
formation with humor.
The Club had many members, but
was proud ofthe number of interested
students who visited its meetings to hear
speakers. Posters were used to publi-
cize meetings, but its best advertisers
were those who attended meetings
Political Science Club officers were
Miles L. Bair, chair., Richard Wholf,
co-chair., and Barbara Butler,sec.-treas.
Top Photo: Miles Bair, second from right, attempted
to hold questions to a minimum when representatives
of the John Birch Society were permitted to voice
their beliefs at a club meeting. Many students and
teachers went away dissatisfied with the answers
given but were glad to have the opportunity to de-
cide for themselves.
Center Photo: Congressman Richard Bolling, of Kan-
sas City, was greeted by a fine group of students
when he spoke to the Political Science Club last tall.
Lower Photo: To present an unusual program and to
have the opportunity to ask questions about the K.C.

the Club as Professor Von Addlehofer, a nuclear
scientist, and provided its members with many laughs.

in the state teacher's convention, held
parties and picnics, and provided spe-
cial services for college events. Offi-

The Folksinging group andthe Chess

The Fine Arts Festival has fora num-
ber ot-years been an outstanding Junior
College presentation. One otits inter-
esting features is that it involves a
large number ot students and faculty
members from several departments,
all cooperating to offer our community
a sampling ot the best work of the pre-

these two pages are scenes from the
Festival presented in May, l96l. ln-
cluded in the Festival were dramatic
presentations by speech students, ex-
hibits by art students, vocal and instru-
mental presentations by musicstudents,
modern dances by students inwomen's
physical education, and a reception
arranged and served by home econo-

and the crowd of students, parents,
friends, and faculty of Junior College
greatly enioyed the program and the

who are interested in Junior College.
