Marcus Aurelius 1971 Yearbook Dedication Is This year we are very proud to dedicate the 1LLOHMKT to Miss Mary McDaniel. She has been a secretary at MCHS for twenty-one years and is regarded as the most familiar face in the office. In filling her vital position, she shows qualities such as: Modesty, capability, dedication, and humor. Her own statement, I work here because 1 like it, reveals her likable personality; the personality which won our award. Miss McDaniel beams as Connie Wiggins. Band is a big part in the lives of some students at M. C.H.S. Jean Meyer and Debby Reynolds add a little color to the halls of MCHS by decorating the bulletin board. The Many Faces Senior Jill Young makes another one of those anonymous phone calls. Richard Cissell can't seem to make up his mind if he should hit it or not. Of M.C.H.S. Many different expressions can be seen on the faces of students as they enjoy the music of the MacMurray College Band. Susan Smith and Greg Mescher pause to have their picture taken for the yearbook on their way to their 4th hour class. 75 ACTIVITIES 1971 Homecoming Queen Marilyn Day Homecoming 78 Bonfires, Parades, Preparations and, Coronations. They all took place at MCI IS and were collectively called Home-coming, a Homecoming which began and ended in an atmosphere full of joy and hope for the forthcoming year. 79 Float Homecoming began with the traditional, festive Homecoming parade. In the float division, First Place was won by the Junior Class. (Right) SECOND PLACE - SENIOR FLOAT 80 Winners THIRD PLACE -SOPHOMORE CLASS Another Homecoming Victory For An unknown Trojan tackles a Wildcat. Trojans Drop Anna Wildcats The exciting football game on Homecoming night was won with strong running and accurate passing on the part of the victorious Trojans. The Trojans defeated the Anna Wildcats 59-0. The Queen s 84 Debbie Chambers and Joanne Haley prepare Queen Marilyn for her promenade. A slow dance imposes a dreamy mood upon Marty Johnson. 68 Christmas In The Park (RIGHT) Couples enjoy refreshments in the lobby at their own leisure. Couples groove to the Establishment. 1971 Gregg Mescher, Junior Class President, At the traditional Junior-Senior Banquet, Yvonne Cart- gave a short welcome address, wright gave a humorous after dinner speech. The food, catered by Stacey’s of Paducah, was enjoyed by all who attended. Keith Whalen. Senior class President, gave a welcome to all present. Prom The theme of the 1071 Prom was Rosedown Manor. The gymnasium, decorated to resemble a Southern Plantation placed everyone in a mood of celebration. Couples swing to the beat of the Kalliope. 91 One of the many decorations was a gazebo. Drama Night — An Evening An Evening with George Bernard Shaw was presented for Drama Night 1971, on April 30 and May 1. The production featured Androcles and Tile l.ion and My l air l.ady. At the beginning the play, Liza Dolittle (Leslie McColgin) finds herself surrounded by Cockney peasants. In Androcles and the Lion. Caesar (Stuart Lasley) is frightened by the lion's (Cathy Clark) sudden approach. 92 Col. Pickering (Fred Jones) and Henry Higgins (Lee Wells) inadvertently insult Liza. With George Bernard Shaw Mr. Higgins uses Liza in one of his phonetic experiments. A joyous mood is exhibited when Liza finally learns to speak correctly. The Queen of Transylvania gives Liza sings I Could Have Danced All Night, her approval of Liza. 93 Speech Winners BACK ROW: Mrs. Wright, Rene Frasher, Cathy Mills, Dianne Dunn, Lee Wells, Kay Lassiter, Brenda Dunmire, Mrs. Faughn. SECOND ROW: Mike Moorman, Vickie Douglas, Fred Jones. BOTTOM ROW: Susie Wells, Yvonne Cartwright, and Mary Guzzy. Thirty-four speech students won awards this year at nine speech tournaments, receiving nine trophies, two certificates of award, and many individual trophies and medals for speakers. Eleven individual speakers and a play were entered at the I.H.S. A. District Contest with the play and seven individual speakers advancing to Sectional, and four speakers to the State Final. The prospect of another undefeated team came to an end with the 20-6 loss to Benton. With this burden off of the Trojans shoulders they went on through the season winning six and losing two. Coach Durham's two seasons as Varsity coach has him with a 14-2 record. A fine record for any coach. 128 Provide Winning Combination The Trojans had many exciting games this year. The season opener was played at a wet and soggy North Marshall field with the Trojans winning 30-13. Benton ended the Trojan winning streak of 9 straight games with a 20-6 in over the Trojans. A win at McLeansboro and a lost to Murphys-boro brought Homecoming to M.C.fl.S. The Trojans, filled witli school spirit, pounded the Anna Wildcats 59-0. This was the beginning of the Trojans awesome offensive and defensive show. From the Anna game to the Ziegler game the Trojans scored 199 points to their opponents 24. This was the first team to win a regional baseball crown.
