Central Catholic was upset by a great 2nd half. Tewksburg led 6-0 after only one minute into the game but Jon Mo- rin ' s interception for a TD won a defensive struggle. Andover handed Methuen its second M.V.C. loss. Austin had ideas of an upset but a fine defensive ef- fort stopped Austin cold. Kevin Tarr led the Rangers to crush a fine Billerica Team. Dracut came to Methuen on Thanksgiving. Great efforts by the offense led by Jon Morin and the defense led by Ron McGrath almost gave the Rangers a well- deserved victory. THE END The last four years have been something which we will all remember. But the past is behind us. In years to come the class of 79 will definitely make an imprint on society. Our class is made up of many people with many personalities and I ' m sure that most of us will rank Iiigli in society. 172 CLASS HISTORY In the fall of 1975 we were the first freshman class to enter this brand new thirteen million dollar high school. Since then much damage has been done thanks to Bernie Dunn, John Valerio, Bob Smith, Ray Demers, Barbara Martin, Annette Mustapha, and Debbie Kahili, to name a few. We were all very nervous upon our arrival here, but glad that we got a few extra weeks vacation. We were always getting lost and it served as a good excuse for our lateness to class. Unfortunately this excuse has not held up in the past few months. Mr. Whiting is not as gullible and Scott Consoli can no longer use that as an excuse. Speaking of Scott, many people remember when they found out his middle name is Placido. At the end of a long first year we were all ready to tackle another year. We were no longer the low men on the totem pole. It was fun to watch the freshmen lose their way and we enjoyed giving them the wrong directions. Bob Caveretta, Ron McGrath, Burt Getchell, Cathy Caraccio, Cheryl Foster, and Colleen Fowler were amongst the many who got their thrills from sending the girls into the boys ' bathroom. We were the first class to order and receive our class rings in our sophomore year. They made us feel very grown-up and we enjoyed showing them off to everyone. Thanks to Mr. Francis, our sophomore class advisor, who worked very hard to make sure we got them before leaving for summer vacation. President Nina Giles, vice-president Deirdre Hegarty, secre- tary Maureen Halloran, and treasurer Regina Danahy our class officers, put a lot of time and effort into designing and ordering our rings. With our new school they felt we needed a new seal so a new one was designed and the traditional one was left to collect dust. At last we were juniors! And what a busy junior year we had. Our newly elected class officers: President Maureen Halloran, vice-president Mark Gilbert, secretary Mary Jo McCarthy, and treasurer Roberta Leslie worked hard to make it a better year. It was the first year a semi-formal was held. Thanks to Mrs. Vanhorne it was a great success. Stevens ' Studios soon arrived to take our class pictures. And they most certainly had a way to make those stone faces smile. They did a lovely job on some, but forced others to go to Loring ' s. The band took a trip to Washington, a trip that they will never forget. Thanks to Dave Jaworski and Dave Pacheco they enlightened the lives of the Senators by revealing their better cheeks on the Capitol. While we are on the subject of the band, what would we do without them. They were always fun to listen to at assemblies and rallies. The band has quite the reputation with their parties and bus trips. Ace did a fine job as drum major, nobody knew how high he was . . . up in the stands. Talented musicians included in the band are: Dave Pacheco, Mitch Kearny, Dennis Lorenza, George Farrell, Doug Constentino, Chris Donigian, Carl Wunderlich, Lisa Lacroix, Joe Pantano, and Marie LTtalien. In the powder-puff football scene we felt ripped-off by the seniors because they stole our two touchdowns. What sore losers! Do you believe we finally made it to our senior year? And we have lived to tell about it. The year started off by the election of the class officers: President Mark Gilbert, vice-president Rosemary Regan, secretary Mary Jo McCarthy, and treasurer Margaret Hovanasian. Then they went right to work planning dances and blood- mobile. Bloodmobile went fine with the exception of one casualty, Kim Jackson. In powder-puff football we lost because of a penalty for clipping and felt we were ripped-off for the second year in a row. Animal House brought a whole new trend to Methuen High and they could have filmed Animal House II right here. Toga was now a household word, especially at the houses of Roy Arsenault and Colleen O ' Connell. Foodfights were also a major part in our everyday school life. John Belushi would have been proud of us. The senior class play, May The Farce Be With You , starring Maureen Halloran, Chris Childs, Celeste Morrel, Mike Keany, Lisa Mugavero, Sandy Spina, Kenny Wilman, Danielle Latullipe, Lisa Dole, Scott Consoli, Rob Sergi, Bob Cavaretta, Kelly Gollin, Sue Grondine, and Kasper Maksian, was a great success and nearly a sell-out all three nights. And it is truly history what was really written in the tapioca pudding. Now we are going to Ease on Down the Road for all our disco dancers. Showing you the way are Cindy Salmon, Nancy Winn, Ann Guilmette, Terry Melisi, Deidre Wheeler, Debbie Spaniol and the leader of the pack Jim Fraas. And who could ever forget the times on Pie Hill, especially the camping trip. February is the perfect time for camping and what better place than Pie Hill, but with this goes a warning that you must have supplies to keep the blood circulating. To end our four years, finals began. Many of us felt that this was not fair, so we rebelled by not taking them and going to the beach, even though it was cold and rainy. For the seniors who are out in the parking lot, Dave Pacheco, Sue 173 Vachon, Barbara Martin, Jim Hermans, Alan Dewhirst, and Anne St. Paul to name a few, we all hope you are not doing any damage. Vandalism to cars is well-known by Gary Gagnon, Maureen Halloran, Chris Donigian, Mitch Kearny, DeAnna Jesse, Vito Ansaldi, and Tina Thibault. So please leave them alone! And now time for you jocks and jockettes tm enjoy the spotlight. Thanks to the efforts from out tri-captains, Jon and Greg Morin and Joe Finochiaro. They produced the first winning football season Methuen has seen in a long time. They could not have done it without the help of Kevin Tarr, Ron McGrath, Scott Tisbert, Steve Ventre, Kevin Bradley, Wayne Holden, Chuck Hilliard, and Gerry Wells. The cheerleaders were headed by Mary Jo Roberge and Gail Mansour and always had plenty of pep. Our field hockey team deserves much recognition for earning M. V. C. champs and making it into the Northern Area Finalists. For that we have to think co-captains, Kathy Szostak and Janice Wadsworth, and their winning team including Beth Childs, Nancy Macleod, and Linda Mistal. Soccer is becoming a popular sport and giving it a good name from here to the New York Hotel are Gary Gagnon, Buddy Haney, Chris Childs, and Dave Harceau. Both girls ' and boys ' cross country deserve a lot of credit for running out in that sub-zero weather along the road to Grandmother ' s house. The boys cross country team won it ' s second M. V. C. crown in the past three years. The team was lead by captain Dave Kazanjian, Jim Fones, Roy Arsenault, Mark Gilbert, Eddie Oleforowicz, Bob Dennis, Vinnie Ardizzone, Pete O ' Dowd, Rob Sergi, and Kevin Deschene. The girls highlighting the team were Donna Ken- dall, Bobbi Baker, Kim Towler, and Kathy Bradley. The volleyball team was full of power-houses including Ann Leonard, Kathy Bitler, Colleen O ' Connell, and Lesley Austin. The ski team is still new, but did very well and shows much promise. Included in the downhill speedsters are captain Lynne Reitano, Dennis Lorenza, Linda Gerardi, Christine Donigian, Pam Deflippo, Colleen O ' Connell, Mimi Ledger, Diane Brooks, Sherri McCann, and Linda Brown who always liked cross-country skiing better. Our hockey team did well but how could they do anything else but with the cheerleaders and their flashy new jumpsuits. The cheerleaders included co- captains, Kim Jackson and Paula Koralishin, and Celeste Morrel. The boys on the hockey team included co-captains, Eddie Nutter and Jon Morin, assistant co-captains, Buddy Haney and Greg Morin, and also Joey Vandette, Jim McNulty, Kevin Lanouette, and Tony Tine. The wrestling team was headed by the Big Bad Bad Cavaretta, Chris Croce, John Palermo, Steve Roberge, Alan Lambert, and Glenn Demers. Our basketball team under the direction of an excellent new coach, Bill Donlon did a fine job with such outstanding athletes including Kevin Bradley, Mark Wante, and Wayne Holden. The girls ' basketball team was M. V. C. champs and state semi-finalists. Included in this team were Judy St. Hilaire, Sandy Leahy, and the field hockey team. There are not enough words to describe our super girls gymnastics team. With outstanding performances from Chris Bergeron, Brenda Contarino, Ann Guilmette, and Kelly Kenvon. On the other side of the fence we have the boys ' gymnastics team including Tony Franciosa, Donny Brandin, Earl Feugill. Jim Amcre, and Greg Daigle. In the past 4 years the boys indoor and outdoor track teams have been on the uprise. The once cellar team of the M. V. C. is now the talk of the town, and state! In the past 2 years they have won 4 state crowns along with 3 M. V. C. championships, beating Andover this spring for the first time in 20 years, Mr. Klimas, Mr. Fuller, Mr. Blood, and Mr. Golack have done a fine job with these boys. Co-captains Dave Kazanjian, Kevin Tarr, Steve Ventre, and Gerry Wells have lead the team along with the help of George Baker, Chuck Hillard, Eddie Oleforowicz, Mark Gilbert, Joe Murach, Wayne Holden, Roy Arsenault, Mark Pennisi, and Bob Dennis. Now for the better half of the track teams we have the girls ' indoor-outdoor track teams. They have been improving ever since they were formed and could not have been so great without the help of tri-captains Maureen Halloran, Donna Kendall, and Lesley Austin. Also runnin the laps were Kim Towler, Bobby Baker, and Ann Leonard. Golf may seem like a boring sport to some but to Danny Lyons, Jimmy Menihane, and Fred Corey putting it in the hole really counts. Our outstanding baseball team was headed by Jay Dzoiba, Chris Waszczuk, Todd Catteau, Mike Ford, Steve Paralisi, Ron McGrath, Mark Wante, Gary Gagnon, Jon Morin, Kevin Bradley, and Bob Griffin. The girls ' tennis team is really hitting them where it counts. The girls who enjoy this racquet are tri-captain Pam DeFlippo, Andrea Chatis, and Colleen O ' Connell. Also on the team are Gail Zilinsky, Pam Hallaran, and Linda Mistal. The boys tennis team, even though headed by the juniors, did well. The softball team was supported by the field hockey and basketball teams. Where would we be without those girls. All did well even though the Eagle Tribune did not give them the recognition they deserved!!!! These are only a small part of our four years. We can not express our memories and feelings on paper, but rather share the past, present, and future in our hearts together. 174 CLASS WILL We the senior class of 1979 being of sound mind and body do hereby leave May, 1979 .... is 31st day of We, Sandy, Julie and Linda leave Mr. Ziminski the new edition of Johnny Pineapple in concert.
