Three hundred and eighty-two Freshmen maintained an image of being either very civilized, such as a Pat Chabot, or very uncivilized as 85% of the class was. It was the year that we fought to wear dungarees and good 01 ' Nick showed his consideration by letting us wear them one day, - the last day! ! ! We were cautious Sophomores entering into the great Tenney High, cage and all. Don ' t worry Victor Majkut, you ' ll find that elevator you so patiently wait to take to the swimming pool on Tenny ' s roof. Hey, let ' s go to a dance, maybe a Sadie Hawkins or a Greaser and see who can leave first. We ' ve always looked up to Seniors with respect and fear - well not really fear because our Powder Puff Team destroyed those Senior girls by a disrespectful score of 6-0. But still some- how their heads were too high from their one victory and lost as Seniors . Imagine, we, the students finally performed as students while Juniors, but it really wasn ' t as much fun as doing nothing for two years. So we loosened up at our mock Las Vegas - the cafeteria and ope: Aies of Tenney. Just for fun in the winter, we had an assortment of bomb scares and fire drills. If you didn ' t get pneumonia the first time out, you were given at least two more chances that day when we had more of these fun games. What really gave bneumonia, though, was having to go back and listen to Mr. Dolloff try to tell us we didn ' t go out into the blizzards in record time. We voted for a student council to bring us benefits to enjoy, but FIRST GEAR?? They couldn ' t get out of it! The new Student Senate DID work this year though to bring some amusement thanks Tricia Harrison, Shelley Bonefant, and Tom Kelly. Class officers this year were Annette , Tom , Laurie and Lou . ■b — Wr 7 ttT ' m m mm _ Steve Caraccio, Judy Hanson, Jaymee McGravey and others were responsible for keeping Mr. Nick in shape. We ' ll still never know why he chased them around Ten ney. Speaking about being in shape, our soccer team was showing that it could play soccer just as well as the year before when the team qualified for the State Tournament. This y jjj they qualified again with a record of 8-4-4. TheJ U Beeley, Glj Cannavo, Kevin Fillion, George Feole, Bill Hadley, Tom Lawton, Dave Moore, Paul Parisi, Bill Rain, Jeff Stott, Steve Scam- mons, Art Soucey, Dave Trovato, Bill York, Steve Winn and Tony Castiglione. Our girl ' s softball team has been winning ever since coming to Tenney, only missing ■phampionsM once and only by one game. Senior stars were Beth Bender, Gail Carter, Carol MacLeod, Linda Gueli and Arlene Marsan. This year they are champs. fcere very jgw tej s at Tenney that had losing seasons , but whether losing or winning , we ill always proud to cheer them on and call them our own: Seniors at last! It took the school a little time to prepare for us. Rook until September 22 to be official ! we thought we were Senior years ago. However, the shock of entering the new school made us think that Karen Oliveri had shrunk to the size of an ant, and the SPACIOUS atmosphere began to affect some of us like Alice Chontoian, Be: many others . The new school was equipped with Activity Areas which the students quickly became accustomed to by doing such activities as sitting and sleeping, especially SLEEPING. People like Dave DiZazzo, Frank DiNoto, Rose Coco, Shelley Smith, Sue Farley, and Cindi Corey went berserk in the Media Center during 5th and 6th periods. ad the Universal wasn ' t set up or it may have affected Glenn Gallant, Dave Hewson, Rick Angus, Paul Russell, Dave I Halaby, Steve DeFusco, Bruce Richards and Rick Zacharias. - Although they gave us but one h the wait. Dracut never knew what hit them, but Rick Angus did. And so the 22-0 slaughter made all the good performances of the season seem like one big victory. The band was aiways a help at getting the crowds into the game. Our band is amazing and probably the most remarkable marching band in the area, as you ' ve seen at the spectacular half-time shows. Also, on October 19, the band featured their first annual band show, which was a brilliant and fascinating performance. contributed their time and effort were the sexy sax player Wendy, the fruity flute player Linda, the pint- kthe devastating drummer Jim, the towering tuba player Ken, the shrieking clarinet players Bar- bara and Helen, and finally the horny horn players Bart and Scott. The band deserves all the credit although Mr. Isadore should get some so he doesn ' t feel left out. The Ice Rink was cold, and still is. However, the Hockey Team kept warm by winning. They gave us a great season for a young team and were always in close competition with a record of 5-11-2. Senior players were Rick Angus, Bob Daigle, Ron DiCenso , Dave Frasca , Dave Hewson , Bruce Richards , Art Soucey , Mike Weinhold and Rick Zacharias . Girls ' Gymnastics leaped to a beaming season that was unparalled to any other year with a record of 1 were Nancy Faunt, Annette Soucy, Lee and Lyn Greenwood and Sue O ' Brien. The Girls ' Field Hockey Team reached their goal and scored an impressive season of 6-5-3. They are sure to hurt next year without Judy Zdanowicz, Debbie Martin, Gail Carter, Diane DeFeo, Pat Duquette, Lee and Lyn Greenwood, Linda Gueli, Donna Lafrenier, Jane Landry, Kathy Menihane and Gina O ' Clare. Then there was Volleyball. The team bounced into the quarter-finals of the state to urney and served up a record of 6-4. Senior stars were Beth Bender, Carol MacLeod and Terry Korzeb. Travelling on, we get to the girls ' Basketball team which ' was led by seniors Gail Carter, Carol MacLeod, Beth Bender, Donna Lafrenier, Diane DeFeo and Judy Zdanowicz. The team dribbled to a high scoring season of 11-5. Speaking of high, the field had some excellent parties. Cross-country ran up a record of 9-4 to the surprise of Joan Landry and Rocky Teer. The boys ' Basketball team made up of Seniors Tom pJwers, Ken Lumb, Jeff Ness, Mike Kostyla, and Bill York gave us 100%, but were victims of inexperience . The wrestling team had a fair season with Senior stars such as John Pittera , Bill Hadley , Steve Winn and George Feole leading the way . Kevin FillMfcffpm Lawton, Bill Raitt, Glenn Cannavo, Dave Moore, and Ron Nicolosi were seniors on the Boys ' Gymnastic team that vaulted to a winning season of 6-4. Because of -all rre Bicentennial spirit, we got to see many important people like Arthue Fiedler and the Boston Pops, starring David Isadore, Lord Methuen and also Glenn Gallawjand Mike Weinhold who had many parties in celebration of the Bicenten- nial - and anything else that needed celebrating. r Class Play, The Devil Made Me Do la was - Nifty. I The Drama Club sponsored a Talent Show which had its hig jhts starrinjM Simon, Annette Soucy, Pat Chabot, Karen Romanelli, Victor Majkut, Linda Booth and George Benson. Ice Hockey didn ' 1 seem to be our girls ' gamWrffllown by the North House vs. South House Hockey game. The Ice Follies, however , dKlsnowtn giris SKiTls and grace that can be performed onice . w % Speaking of follies, that ' s the word they should have used to describe the Christmas Holly Ball. This is no reason why our Yearbook staff or Leslie Kerman, Bonnie Fitzgerald, Dave Plantamura, Beth Bender, Jane Landry, Debbie Barbin, Arlene Mar- r , . i san, Karen Scarelli, Jody St. Germain, Karen Oliveri, Sue Cummings and Shari C nran can be blamed for trying, even though it was a pretty flaky scene inside and out. Maybe a little mi ;ould have liven ■ace up. I think all the Christmas SPIRIT was left in the cars underneath the seats WW- Our golf team is having a fantastic season going 10-4. Leadij lto the holii Bior staW om Gilbert and„Mitch Halaby . Even though Mitch acts pretty civilized in school I saw him get really teed off out there on the green . Green, isn ' t that the color of our brand new Tennis Courts? Yes, and both our girls and boys teams seemed to specialize in love as they showed us that tennis was their racket while serving up scores of 7-3 and 4-9 respectively. Spring was also the season for coed track as our boys ' spring track team had an excellent record of 10-2. Senior stars were Glenn Gallant, Jeff Ness, Tom Lawton, Bob Daigle and Mike Kostyla. The girls didn ' t do that badly either. Bto fe The separation of the Senior class into the North and South houses was soon overcome by the constant parties at the field. I nothing else, we ' ll always remember the field. Its memories will HANGOVER us for beers, - years to come! While I was there I saw Cindy Faggiano, Debbie Romeo, Fran Rogonese, Joelle Garfi, Linda DeCeasare, Jill Collins, Sue O ' Brien, Alice Chantonian and Sandy Van Dome. They still seem to be having a great time! Did you see Eileen Regan ' s picture in Cosmopolitan last month? She ' s an international model now you know. The )ictures were taken by Judy Zdanowicz. • ! saw some of Kevin Fillion ' s photography in Sports Illustrated. There were some 204 great shots of Olympic skiers Dave Moore and Bill Raitt. Jeff Ness and Mike Kostyla ' s pictures were in also. They just led the Celtics to their fourth straight championship this season. Speaking of sports, Glenn Gallant won a medal in the decathalon and now he ' s equipment manager for the high school. Ken Lumb is the baseball coach and Steve Desrosiers just became the basket- ball coach and his team went undefeated. Boy, that ' s a switch from when we were seniors! Hey guys - let ' s not forget the girls AGAIN! Lee and Lyn Greenwood are now the track coaches, Beth Bender and Carol MacLeod coach the girl ' s softball team. They just had Gail Carter in to speak to the girls on pitching. You know, she now pitches for the Women ' s International Softball League! I heard Paul Parisi has a horse in the Kentucky Derby named Reeses Cup and Steve Caraccio is the jockey! Rick Parker has become a druggist . Some of his regular customers in the store are Don Frechette , Thomas Gilbert , Bruce Richards and Joe Ellsey. Architects Dave Plantamura and Paul Fox just designed Mantis City in Switzerland. Bill Beeley, Mark Borgesi, Robert Byrnes and Jim Lattini were part of the construction crew. Have either of you been back to the high school lately? No, why? You ' ll never guess who the principal is now! Shari Conran! Mark Donahue, Cathie Piper and Bonnie Fitzgerald are all teachers now. Bonnie is teaching a new course called Bicentennial and Ten Years Later. Mike Tahan took Tom ' s place as an English teacher too! Jane Landry and Joann Delli Colli are heading up the best run Special Education department in the state too ! Annette Guy is running a school for mentally disturbed children. Oh, and Steve DeFusco and Anne O ' Rourke are the two assistant principals at the high school. I hear Bernie Dyson is still flying. He ' s a pilot for American Airlines. Delores Whipple is the head stewardess too. I was on his plane a while ago and I ran into Dave Nadeau on his way to live in Australia. Joanne Buben was on her way to Paris with her famous artwork. Oh! I saw a rerun of Moon Trek the other day and Dave Trovato was the star - Mr. Pock. I saw Mitch Mongol Halliby wrestling Ron Bruno Hatem for the World Federation Wrestling Champion- ship. Steve Winn and John Pittera are their trainers. The match really got out of hand near the end though. Policemen Tom Dirty Harry Lawton and George Tough Man Feole had to break it up. I couldn ' t see that match because I was at a party given down at the field by some of our old socialites Carla Curtis, Jody St. Germain, Karen Scarelli, Mary lou Arsenault, Liz Lahey , Diane Lupo. and Diane Lefleur. Have either of you heard from our valedictorian Leslie Kerman? No have you? Last I heard she was the School Committee Chairman in Methuen and not only that she wears even prettier hats than her mother did when we were in school! I bet there are a lot of our old friends that are all settled down and are leading half decent lives! I know for a fact that many of the guys settled down to a happy family life such as: Bruce Bilapka, Dave Callahan, Matt Bolduc, Glenn Canavo, Gary McGonigle, Tom Kelly, Sam Jabour, Eddy Sheldon and Mike Vallario. I know that Debbie Arivella married Bob, Shelly Bonenfat married Jerry and Nancy Collins married Goerge. Oh, don ' t forget Gina O ' Clare. She married my husband ' s twin you know and now she has five children romping through her house. She really must keep busy! I ' m sure many more of our classmates have done well through the years and even though we ' ve not seen them I ' m sure everyone thinks back to their high school years quite often and remembers the friends they had. I sure miss some of those days. Things just aren ' t the same any more. Boy, a lot has come to pass since we ' ve graduated. I just hope all are happy in what they ' re doing. I know I am. Well - here comes the bus! See you later - Good Luck! During the past few decades , our society has been going through a significant change . More than ever industrialization and computerization are making themselves known. One only has to take a look around modem Methuen to realize that cultural advancement is an important and growing reality. The recently constructed Methuen Mall and the new Methuen High School are perhaps the greatest local examples of economical and educational growth. f T h Since society has become endowed with numerous developments and intricate complexities , social life has broadened . As the pace of social life quickens, the moral values of the individual usually degenerate and are replaced with a desire for material objects. A lust for money, a desire of personal esteem, and an avarice for expensive property, are the usual results. If one is not cautious in his outlook toward society, materialism will get the better of him, and he will lose the struggle to maintain spirit- ual, emotional, and moral principles. Decreasing moral values are one of the major problems in today ' s society, and this prob- i lem lies in the hands of today ' s graduates, who must arrive victorious in their stmggle with materialism and thus aid in preserv- ing the wholesome righteousness of American Society . More than ever, there is a need for knowledge and leadership. As our society grows and becomes more modernized, more educated and intellectually endowed, individuals are needed to bring together our cultures more divergent aspects, and to steer them on a constant course of development. With the increase of materialism, it is important that everyone contribute to socie- ty ' s general welfare. The future represents this graduating class ' major challenge, for the future bears more materialistic com- plexity with which we will inevitably have to deal. As the graduating class ct |976 advances into a society of materialistic values, it will be faced with the struggle of dealing with lye ' s intricacy. Hopefully, the graduates will be persistent and courageous in their battle against life ' s vices, and strive to Dverall atmosphere of society. The time has come to place behind us the happy memories of high schoo t step forward into a materialistic ONOR WE ' VE YET TO BEGIN by Kim Daigle We, the graduates of the class of 1976, have completed 12 years of study. And in turn, each of us will receive a diploma as measure of his success. However, as we reflect upon our experiences throughout our school years, the meaning may somehow be misinterpreted . By no means is it the end of education, but rather it signals a new beginning. Perhaps another word which would more aptly describe this ceremony is Commencement. The word comi Beginning and never ceasing. Graduation is simply the first major goal we have reached in our lives. I an s not end here. All of us have stronger goals we wish to see fulfilled. However, in order to attain any measu J must rerr ember that the important qualities we need are courage and dete nination. We must pu ;ue our indi vidua -J win a prize that no one ' s ever won. But it takes more than ourselves. We must have drive to work with others. We this prize, we are actually directing others in their goals. We must act not only in regan o our own futur concern for our fellow man. Graduation is the beginning of opportunity. We mustn ' t let our lives be influenced by false impressions. We own and must follow our own instincts; but first we must consider the thoughts of othersT We ' ve worked 12 years towards receiving our diplomas tonight, but our task does not stop here. It ' s only the end of ihi nine. I We ' ve yet to begin experiencing what lies ahead. Flexibility, unlike mathematics, ■iot consist of set methods and defi utions. Bis not like a computer which is fed information and comes back with a patterned response. A flexible individ- ual listens, understands, contemplates, and then adapts. When presented with a dilemma, he does not snap off a routine answer J I with little thought of the consequences. The flexible person takes in the entire situation and puts in that extra amount of under- standing and effort which makes his response plausible and meaningful to all concerned J Entering modern society as young men and women, we will constantly be dealing with people - individuals of various back- grounds, educations, religions, and personalities. Basically, the course of our lives will be determined by the ways in which we relate to these people. If we are cold to their needs, they will be unfeeling toward us. Yet, if we bend for others, certainly the spirit of cooperation and compromise will be continued. If we are not flexible and adaptable, it really does not matter if we can recite Shakespeare or do calculus. No-one will be around us who cares about such achievements. s mFTkk In conclusion, I would like to wish my fellow classmates happiness and success in their future endeavors. As we leave Methuen,. High School today, may we all cherish the memories of the last twelve years, and look to the future as flexible, responsive individuals whose minds have been illuminated by the light of knowledge and stand ready to burn brightly in the world ahead. 211 Susan, BE HAPPY ! .
