SENIORS ATHLETICS ACTIVITIES MEMORIES Jennifer Smith i •i X IN DEDICATION His interest in us has not been limited to the school hours in his art classes. QJ W His immeasurable artistic advice and help have made our prom and many other school functions successful. His has been a gift of work, patience, and time. Even more significant is his vital concern for the education and character development of the students of Tenney High. It is with profound respect that we extend our sincere gratitude to Mr. Joseph Melia. A D M I N I S T R A T I O N Education does not mean teaching people what they do not know ... It is a painful, continual and difficult work to be done by kindness, by watching, by warning, by precept, and by praise, but above all — by example. — Ruskin ARTHUR F. The band also takes part in several holiday parades in Methucn and the annual Field Day in Lowell. The band, like anything else, has its good points (like skipping practice to roam the halls . . .) and its bad points (such as playing in the rain at the Thanksgiving Day game . . .). Altogether, we feel that the band adds a great deal of school spirit to the activities it participates in! -H, Mr. Martin Tarlaian 105 Does she ever stop talking? v Y s cr-i 3 m j 3§ 1 « . yjLj ' 106 in M , did you say? This program, written by John Bajor and Glenn Shinner, and edited by the two stars of the Editors, Mr. Beaumont and Mr. Lister, is presented for your remembering pleasure. Let ' s turn our memories back to our sophomore year and look at the political scene. Our President, Glenn Shinner, and his advisors, Judy Allen, Vice-President; Nan- cie Appleyard, Secretary; and Jennifer Haldane, Treasurer, ruled wisely but were sharply criticized by members of the Student Council; Barbara Parolisi, Kathy Bergin, Janice Mendonsa, and Joanne Pellitier. Two members of the class who attempted to overthrow the government were King Michael Koczat and Queen Linda Heffernan. Sophomore year, however, proved to have a quite stable political party. Also during that year, the enlistees of the Cadet Corps enjoyed much noncomba- tant activity. The Annual Military Ball was held and B-company proved to be the best of the Wednesday Warriors. They received their medals and paraded their shining triumphs throughout the long night. Field Day was held and three cadets were the best of our lot. Michael Adams, looking sharp, took the first place medal; John Lockaby took second, while Dana Collins succeeded with third. The first presentation of the Rene J. Morissette Medal for commanding ability was awarded to Bob Korsak. In the area of awards, Janet Eichler and John Bajor received the DAR awards for service to school and community life. Now a year later, election time 1966-1967 rolled around and new political officials were elected. Russ Florenz, President; Judy Allen, Vice-President; Joyce Haddad, Secretary; and Jennifer Haldane, Treasurer took the oath swearing to make our class the best, of course! Members of the House of Representatives, Linda Heffernan, Joanne Pellitier, Kathy Bergin, Linda Bardsley, Janice Mendonsa were a useful connec- tion between faculty and students despite some student unrest at the close of junior year. Our upperclassmen ID ' s arrived on the scene on October 5, 1966. Numerous manners were devised to display our shiny rings throughout the school, which proved that we were finally upperclassmen. Our assignment weary military forces were again ordered to attack the mountain of work and time needed to hold an Annual Military Ball. The Warriors were successful and the proceedings went off as sharp as a shot. The Junior drill was the main attraction and the first place medal went to Glenn Shinner, second to Bob Korsak, and John Lockaby was awarded third place. The other Cadet event, Field Day, was again successful for Glenn Shinner and Bob Korsak who took first and second place respec- tively. Ed Hapshe captured the third place medal. On its second presentation, the Rene J. Morissette Medal was awarded to Rick Feugill. Still on the award scene were Jennifer Smith and John Lockaby who received DAR awards for citizenship that year. Now we will turn to sports. In the field of fun and games, elections were held for the famous distractors of the sports arena and the following were voted to be the cheerleaders for 1968; Captain Joyce Fallon, Gayle Andrews, Janet Eichler, Marie Fichera, Cathy Joy, Linda Vancoppenolle. The bright spots of the band were elected in the beginning of May and those donning the blue and white colors of Tenney as majorettes were the following: Captain Nancy Ruffen, June DeGuglielmo, Joyce Haddad, Sharon Higton, Sue Lipton, and Chris McKenzie. Now on the social set, an induction was held for the new members of the National Honor Society. This honor is bestowed on those who possess the qualities of character, scholarship, leadership, and service. The tops in our class were as follows: President Russ Florenz, Vice-President Glenn Shinner, Secretary Kathy Bergin, Treasurer Judy Allen, Historian Jennifer Smith, Gayle Andrews, John Bajor, Jim Boardman, Janet Eichler, Diane Freije, Linda Heffernan, Bob Korsak, John Lockaby, Cathy Lafitte, Linda Leslie, Claire Levasseur, Pat Moran, Maryann Murach, Sheila Siatkowski, and Sandi Wilson. Returning to the political scene, our Tenney High was represented on the state level by delegates to the Massachusetts ' Boys ' and Girls ' State. This conference, con- cerning local government was enjoyed by Linda Heffernan, delegate to Girls ' State and by Russ Florenz and Glenn Shinner, who were delegates to Boys ' State. Although all seniors were jubilant over reaching their graduation year, four seniors were quite pleased with the election results for ' 68. Those who led the class of ' 68 to the pinnacle of success were our President Dan Kolifrath, Vice-President Fred Joseph, Secretary Chris LaMonica, and once again Treasurer Jennifer Haldane. As seniors we had acquired a louder but not necessarily more effective voice in the President ' s Cabinet and those Student Council members making all the noise were President Joanne Pellitier, Secretary Linda Heffernan, Treasurer Janice Mendonsa, John Carney, Nancie Appleyard, and Joyce Fallon. New appointees assumed various responsibilities. A vital part of our high school memories was included in our Yearbook which would certainly receive a Pulitzer Prize if we had anything to do with it. The prize-winning staff is as follows: Editor-in-chief Judy Allen, Kathy Bergin, Linda Heffernan, Cathy Lafitte, Joanne Beaudoin, Chris LaMonica, Russ Florenz, Jennifer Smith, Glenn Shinner, Fred Joseph, Joe DePetrillo, Janice Coty, Jane AJlston, and Janet Eichler. In regard to publications, the Blue and White published some interesting issues, to say the least. Working the presses, inking the type, and editing those unneces- sary phrases are the staff of the newspaper: Editor-in-chief Maryann Murach, Claire Levasseur, Pat Moran, Sue Waitkewich, Glenn Shinner, Sheryl Morgan, Linda Renner, and John Lockaby. Senior year, which brought on transfers of leadership, also affected the Cadet Corps. An assembly was held to announce the cadets who would carry on the tradition and honor of the Cadet Corps. The top men announced were: Colonel Glenn Shinner, Lieutenent Colonel Bob Korsak, Drill Major Rick Feugill, and Adjutant Major John Lockaby. Elected by the member of the Corps to grace parades and assemblies were the lovely and personable Queen and Attendants for the Cadets. Received with enthusiasm at the assembly were Queen Joanne Pellitier, and Attendants Sheryl Morgan and Janice Mendonsa. Turning to sports, the seniors did a marvelous job in leading our fabulous Rangers to Victory. Our football team, co-captained by Russ Florenz and Dan Kolifrath, was inspired by their Queen Judy Allen and her Attendants Chris LaMonica and Linda Bardsley. Our merry band of marathon runners could be seen tromping over hill and dale led by their fearless Captain Steve Alliette. Our distinguished men of the court were presided over during each game by Captain John Carney. Breaking in our new track were the fleet-footed muscle-bound participants of the track squad. Their pace-setter was Captain Russ Florenz. Defending the diamond, our finesome ninesome were led by Co-captains Jack Welch and Jim Lafond. Now for a look at girls ' sports. Leading the defense and offense on the court this season were Co-captains Sue Zurwell and Cathy Bedrosian. Checking the outdoor activities, one could find those lilies of the field swinging cheir crazy curved sticks under the leadership of Co-captains Nancie Appleyard and Pam Kus. In the spring, the girls don their racing-striped baggy pants to charge into the softball field with Captain Donna DeGregario at the helm. Back at the State House, we heard that John Bajor was our representative on Student Government Day in Boston. On the theater review, the critics acclaimed the superb performance of leads, Dan Kolifrath and Janet Eichler, in the hilarious production of Get Smart, aided by student directors Cathy Joy and Bob Korsak. Now as our class history ends and history is resumed for another period in our lives, we come to graduation. The highest honor of valedictorian was bestowed on two students whose scholastic abilities and achievements were equally outstanding. These honors went to Gayle Andrews and Jennifer Smith. The second honor of salutatorian was earned by Judy Allen. Claire Levasseur was honored by being named the Honor Essayist, while our orator at Class Day was John Lockaby. Now that our production of Those were the Years that Were has come to a conclu- sion, we hope that the memories we have recalled have brought to mind the pleasurable experiences that have occurred throughout our short stay at Tenney. CLASS PROPHECY by Linda Heffernan and Robert Korsak What will the future bring? Much success or none at all? Whether pauper or king, The answer lies in the crystal ball. To see into the future Ten years from sixty-eight Could be quite an adventure Not even having to wait. Will our classmates be fortunate And be forever gay? Or will they become obstinate And waste their lives away? Now we look into the crystal ball To see what will become of them all.
