Dr. James R. Heffern Associate Professor of Biology Mrs. Pauline M. Longest Assistant Professor of Biology The BIOLOGY department through varied approaches and meaningful experiences seeks to challenge the potential of the individual student. The present program includes basic required courses and advanced work for a major in Biology. In the future the department hopes to increase the course offerings for maiors and to build up collections of organisms for study purposes. The biology department supports the Science Club and the Collegiate Academy of the North Carolina Academy of Sciences. The department also participates in field trips and promotes special guest lectures in science. Individual professors are presently engaged in the North Carolina Education Association, in research on the education program of North Carolina, and in building up collections and data on local flora and fauna.
