C5118 991.1 6 MISS ELEANOR SMITH Direcfor, Mefhodisf-Kohler School of Nursing C7002 Q5 4g2Z'lft'l'l'L1'lCl tglpjfnoin iecl Qirecior At the September meeting of the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors held on September 18, 1959, two administrative officers of the school were given new titles and pro- motions. Miss Eleanor Smith, '36, acting director since July 15, 1957, was named director, and Miss Fern Sheick, assistant director, was pro- moted to the position of associate director. Miss Smith's appointment as the seventh di- rector is a milestone in the history of the school- as Miss Smith is the first alumna of the school to hold this post. Since her graduation Miss Smith has been associated with Methodist-Kahler in various capacities, having held both nursing service and nursing education positions. In the area of nursing service she had experience doing private duty, was a head nurse in the Oral and Plastic Operating Room for six years, and was Director of Nursing Service at the Worrall Building for four years. Miss Smith has been a member of the faculty for eleven years. She served under two former directors. She has held several positions of responsibility, as a medical-surgical instructor, science instructor, assistant nursing arts instructor, and the asso- ciate director. Before enrolling at Methodist-Kahler, Miss Smith did undergraduate study at St. Olaf College, Northfield, and Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Twice during her professional career at Methodist-Kahler she has returned to advanced study, and in 1946 received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Chicago and in 1957 her Master of Education degree from the University of Minnesota. She was the recipient of the Mayo Association Grad- uate Nurse Award in 1955.
