The Link SCMUUH Again lgccrfeffillilifaliil Voiunteer Group Active The faculty of the Methodist-Kahler School of Nursing is proud to report the results of the 1954 resurvey of the school program by the National Nursing Accrediting Service. Once again the school program has been approved and the name of our school appears on the official list of the National League for Nursing. You will recall that the school was surveyed and granted its first national accreditation in 1946. Periodically, since that time, it has been required to submit progress reports and has remained on the approved list. However, to stimulate continued improvement of nursing education, all nursing schools with nationally approved nursing programs are required to sub- mit to resurveys at certain intervals, and in September, 1953, our school was visited by Miss Hazel Goff and Miss Margaret Giflin, represent- atives from the National Nursing Accrediting Service. The results of that survey granted us accredited status for 1954. Owing to many administrative and educational changes which were in progress at that time, however, a resurvey was advised and in August, 1954, Miss Katherine Brim resurveyed the program. In November, 1954, we received the official notification of our accreditation for 1955. We hope that this report will give you added reason to be proud of your alma mater and, with your support, we can continue to maintain our reputation as an outstanding school of nursing. Rochester Methodist Hospital Auxil- iary, which was organized last year, now has a membership of 100 volunteer workers. Auxiliary members can be identified in our hospitals by their cherry-colored smocks. They are becoming known as The Pink Ladies. They visit with the patients, read to them and assist the nurses and nurse aids with many non- professional duties which contribute to the gen- eral comfort of the patient. During the past year several projects were undertaken by the group, including a Christmas tea at Edith Mayo Hall for the students and faculty of the school. Mrs. Milton Scholer and Mrs. J. T. Priestly were in charge of the tea. The decorations and refreshments were provided by the members of the auxiliary, some of whom also served as hostesses. Gay holiday favors, designed by Mrs. Charles Edwards, brightened the trays of patients who were hospitalized dur- ing the holidays. Several members of the group volunteered their services to the school and worked in the library assisting with the proces- sing of new books for the hospital sub-libraries. A permanent project which has been undertaken is the establishment of an Information Desk in the main lobby of the Rochester Methodist Hospital. A member of the group is stationed at the desk from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Each person works a 3-hour shift. A recent addition to the services provided by the organization is a shopping cart for patients. The officers for the year are Mrs. Harry Blackmun, president, Mrs. S. G. Suddendorf, vice president, Mrs. Howard Vtfest, secretary, Mrs. james VVillis, treasurer. Membership in the Auxiliary is nondenom- inational and open to all women of the com- munity who are interested in serving. Each new group of volunteers will be given the course of instruction. In the hospitals the Pink Ladies function under the supervision of Miss Esther Roesti and Miss Lyla Olson,superintendents of HLIFSCS.
