ihfpink Brings Changes The year 1953, and specifically January 1, 1954, will go down as dates to remember in the history of the Kahler Hospitals and the Kahler School of Nursing. Late last summer rumors became facts when Mr. Roy Watson, Sr., gave the following notification to the Kahler Corporation employees and to the press: The Methodist Board of Homes and Hospitals has evidenced interest in the purchase of the Kahler Corporation Hos- pital properties. As hospital operation for a privately owned stock company is becoming exceedingly difficult and in anticipation of future demands on Rochester hospitals it is felt that operation by another group would be beneficial to all concerned. Consequently the Kahler Corporation has evidenced willingness to sell the Kahler Hospitals and the Kahler School of Nursing to the Methodists. Obviously a business transaction of such magnitude involved many details. A steering committee representing the Methodist Board of Homes and Hospitals, the local Methodist Church and the administrative staff of the Mayo Clinic was named to proceed with plans for organization and finance. Additional organiza- tional and financial support was provided by the Methodist congregations throughout the nine states of the North Central jurisdiction. Plans went forward, the necessary financial campaign was launched, a Board of Directors of the proposed Rochester Methodist Hospitals was formed from the original steering committee and in December, 1953, an agreement was reached between this board and the Kahler Corporation. As a result of this agreement the nonprofit Methodist Corporation took over ownership and operation of the Colonial and Worrall Hospitals and the Kahler Hospitals School of Nursing on january 1, 1954. This then, is the story of the creation of the Rochester Methodist Hospital and the Methodist-Kahler School of Nursing. For the time being the Worrall Hospital will be known as the Worrall Building of the Rochester Methodist Hospital. Greatly expanded hospital facilities are envisioned by the Methodist cor- poration as well as plans to centralize facilities of the school of nursing. That Kahler Alumni have a genuine and continued interest in their school was evidenced by the number of letters of inquiry which came to the school office. It was gratifying to hear from you and we are happy to say that we have been assured there will be no immediate change in the Kahler cap or pin. Neither does the new administration necessitate any change in organ- ization or policy of the Kahler Alumni Associa- tion. During the past 35 years the Kahler Cor- poration has administered the school of nursing in such a way that we can view past achievements with pride and satisfaction. Now we face the future with anticipation, confident that in the years ahead we can look forward to even greater achievements. Grace Lahre ll-faculty Changes Mrs. Charles Taylor CNorma Bodle, '50D has accepted the position of nursing arts in- structor for a year to relieve Miss Nina Pladson who is on a leave of absence. Mrs. Taylor was awarded one of the J. H. Kahler Memorial Scholarships in 1950. After her graduation in 1950 she held the position of head nurse at the Worrall Hospital until the fall of 1951. She then attended the University of Minnesota and was graduated with honors. She received the Bachelor of Science degree in nursing education in June, 1953. Mrs. Taylor is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau, honorary sorority of nurses, and of Pi Lambda Theta, honorary sorority for women in the field of general education. Mrs. Taylor is also acting house director at the student residence, Richards Hall. Mrs. E. R. Morgan has joined our staff as a part-time member of the teaching staff of the Methodist-Kahler School of Nursing and the Rochester Diet Kitchen. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in dietetics from Dominican College, New Orleans, Louisanna. She interned at Charity Hospital, New Orleans, and after her internship she accepted the position of teaching dietitian at the Northwestern School of Nursing which is affiliated with the Con- federate Memorial Hospital in Shreveport, Louisianna.
