The Senior Class of 1961 Presents The Meteor Metamora High School Metamora, Ohio

Page 6 text:

Fifty years ago the first graduating class of Metamora High School completed twelve years of education, passed through the portals of learning, and went on to adult life. The seven graduates of 1911 are pictured above. HAROLD OTTGEN took up farming and in later years has been a self-employed painter. BERT MITCHELL, a World War I veteran, was employed by the Toledo and Western Railway for a number of years. He returned to Metamora as a clerk in the Sanders Grocery Store, later purchasing the business. He served as a Metamora School bus driver for several years. CARL MITCHELL entered World War I and chose this field as a career. At the present time he is a resident of the Soldiers' Home at Sandusky. HAZEL OTTGEN was married to Arthur Schlatter after graduation and now lives in North Street, Michigan. CHARLES MALONE started his career as cashier in the Metamora Home Savings Bank. He established the Biehl-Malone Funeral Home and the Malone-Insurance Agency. At present he is president of the Metamora State Bank; treasurer of the Swanton Savings and Loanj director of the Community Savings, Sylvanla; clerk of the Town- ship Trustees; vice president of the State of Ohio CKO; chairman of the Fulton County Republican Executive Com- mittee, and a trustee of the Metamora Public Library, being one of its original organizers. He has been an active member of the American Legion for 40 years and holds a life membership. He is a member of the Metamora Fire Department and has devoted a great deal of time to the Fulton County Red Cross. HARRY TREDW AY was employed at the Metamora Home Savings Bank until he entered service in World War I. He is now cashier at the Lyons Bank and also clerk of the Lyons Borad of Education, a position which he has held for 40 years. HAROLD HEFFRON enrolled at the University of Michigan where he studied medicine. He entered practice in Metamora with his father and is now located in Adrian, Michigan. He is a World War I veteran. Their chosen paths varied, but they all became successful citizens, building their lives on the foundation laid in the elementary and secondary schools and climazed by graduation day. The 1961 Meteor tries to show some of the activities, work, and spirit of this foundation being built fifty years later as the present-day students, from kindergarten through the twelfth grade, work and strive for the same goals--graduation and worthy citizenship. The Meteor staff wishes to honor those 1911 graduates for achieving their goals and living successful lives based on the knowledge and ideals gained while students of the Metamora School. In addition, the staff extends to the present Metamora students best wishes in their efforts to attain results which will etch their names, too, in the rolls of outstanding Metamora High School graduates.
