And Business, Mathematics, strong, Will leave these cherished halls Prepared for their careers. A varied program in humanities Befell their lot, if they but showed The skill and will to brave such task. And when a weakness showed. The kindly aid of faculty, Well trained in guidance, lifted them To new ambitions, won results. And they were challenged, too, And, as they met the challenges, Found growth to wing them on The way to fame. God speed, we wish them nowg And, as they face the darts of life, In college and the world, The grace to face and light The forces they must meet. This year's graduation will coincide with the termination of Sister Mary Ernestine's eighteen years of service at Messmer. According to Canon Law, Sister is prepared for a change, since she has completed her six years as Superior of the Convent Community. Sister Mary Ernestine's kindness, wis- dom and helpful guidance have been in- strumental in bringing about a more progressive Messmer and better Mess- merites. Her departure leaves behind appreciative memories in the hearts of all. Messmer's annual retreat, which was conducted by Rev. Edward Day. C.SS.R.. and Rev. John Hoffman. C.SS.R., took place in October. and was an unforgettable experience. Modern Dance classes taught by Mrs. Sheehan were among the new features at Messmer this year. TA GE 61 THE GREAT SEBASTIONS by George Sokolsky Lunt and Fontaine are a vaudeville combo in a mind reading act, and their bookings have carried them as far as Prague, Czechoslovakia, in late 1948. They were just in time for the upsurge of the Commu- nists and the purported suicide of Jan Masaryk and for a pleas- ant while it looks as though they never get out of Prague alive! The result is a charming, Winsome comedy. The mind reading dual, The Great Sebastiansf' have bee friends of Jan Masaryk, and had lunch with him the day be- fore his death, so the new Gov- ernment in Czechoslovakia asks them to say publicly that Masa- ryk had been depressed and un- happy about the accident as head of the former government. When the Sebastians refuse to do this, they are in trouble. They are hired to do their mind reading act at the home of a Communist ofiicial, who hopes to use them to disclose a treas- ure for his government. How- ever, the plot fails and they find themselves prisoners, with their life savings, in the form of a valuable postage stamp, in the hands of the enemy. After many ingenious intrigues an es- cape is managed ffor this is a comedyj and even the postage stamp is retrieved, and the Se- bastians dash for the border, ac- companied by a reformed com- munist, who has decided he would prefer life outside the iron curtain. Highlighting non-conference plays was the edging of Rufus King. 61-571 Junior center Tom Flynn exploded for 27 points in defeating our neighboring rival. The Blue Quintet. after losing the first three conference games, came alive to upset both Pius and Marquette. In the last three seconds of double overtime against Mar- quette, Tom Holton drove in and scored to climax the victory. Sparked by their four game winning streak, the Bishops came within a two point upset of unde- feated St, Catherine's of Racine. On win- ning the Angels said it was their tough- est game in four years! Our unpredictable five went on to finish the season with impressive victories over Don Bosco and St. Joseph's of Ken- osha. High scorer in the White Division was our Junior Center, Tom Flynn with 202 points. As the Milwaukee Journal commented, Messmer High Schools' bas- ketball team might not have won the Catholic conference championship, but it had a lot to say about who did! BLUEPRINT FOR VICTORY J. Kass brought his iguana to school to show his biology teacher, Sister M. Evelyn. She was one of five Science teachers of Milwaukee to receive the Cer- tiiicate of Merit and has been on the committees of both the Junior Academy of Science and the South- eastern Wisconsin Science Fair, has attended NSE sessions at Gonzaga and Marquette University. Her students' outstanding contributions again won prizes at the Science Fair in April. 72 TRACK TEAM: J. Effinger, R. Yerkes. E. Auger, E. Quinn, J. Kintzele. T. Gleissner. J. Debbrccht, J.
