REV. CARROLL A. GUNTHER Director of Religion, Teacher, Counselor Who says faculty members don't laugh? We have proof that they do. Sure, Father Gunther is the man we mean. He doesn't spend all his time figuring out how to keep us happy, though. Cheerfulness seems to be one of his natural attributes. Father's example of facing things with a smile will remain foremost in our minds after we leave Messmer - when the old road of life starts getting rough and we need something to keep us from giving up. REV. VERNON J. KUEHN Director of Athletics, Teacher, Counselor Father Kuehn is a man of many duties. He is spiritual director of our Catholic Students' Mission Crusade and Ecclesi- astical Assistant to Young Christian Stu- dents. As athletic director, he has done an enormous job of carrying the tradition of Messmer into the world of sports. Father's casual attitude has made it easy for us to become attached to him. Father Kuehn is an able teacher, a reliable coun- selor, and an all-around good sport.

Coaches MR. HUBERT MAIKOWSKI Head Coach, Teacher of Co-Homemaking Hub speaks little of himself, but we always hear a great deal about him. To know him is to realize what a good sport is. As a former Messmer star himself, he's the right man to take charge of our athletics. Hub knows what the Messmer spirit is and he tries to keep it alive in our teams. Hub Maikowski-a skillful coach, a highly es- teemed alumnus, and a Christian gentleman. MR. WALTER FRICKE Assistant Coach Why does Mr. Messmerite seem so eager to get to his physical education class every week? The answer probably lies with Wally Fricke. He's always ready to show the boys the ropes. There are times when he gets right out on the basketball court to show how I did it in my day. Call it luck, but he can still sink 'em. Together with the boys, everyone agrees that Wally, with his lengthy patience and his cute short haircut, is a welcome asset to Messmer. MISS DOLORES HANSER Miss Hanser has been with us for two years, guiding the girls in their quest for healthful living and worthwhile play. Gym, swim, and health classes make up her busy day. Training our viva- cious cheerleaders, preparing a water pageant, and supervising girls' teams in various sports round out her full program.
