MESSLAH GGES TO TEMPLE This year, in what may be an educational first in the United States, a small private institution has established a branch campus at a major university- Messiah has gone to Temple. After several years of planning, the satellite campus became functional this year. This campus provides a unique opportunity for Messiah students to further their education in new directions, in a new setting. Messiah students enroll in the Temple courses and receive the advantages a large, urban, university offers, while they live in a more personalized setting than the university offers and study supplemental courses available through Messiah faculty. This was a year full of adjustments for the Messiah students at Temple. They had to take other residences until Messiahis Living- Learning Center at 2026 North Broad Street was ready for use. The daily ritual of fighting early-morning subway crowds to get to classes Was an experience for which Grantham residency had provided little trainin Classes with profs who g had written their own texts were frightening but instructional. Messiah has taken a great step forward, the years to come will show how great. THE LOCK OF LIFE The look of life is an instantaneous, undefined, vague thing-almost a feeling-that vanishes without warning at the slightest hint of capture. It is everywhere around us, yet seems to evade us when we reach out to grasp it. The look- the very essence-of life is seen so many times, yet understood or communicated so seldom. In a way, trying to describe the look of life is like trying to see love or hope. It is in abundant evidence and its effects may be often observed, but it defies definition. f 1 gn--Q The look of life visits a soccer game where players concentrate on the ball and spectators concentrate on the players. It is present when the basketball moves quickly around the court and the cheers of the crowd fill the room with resounding support. The look of life may be noticed in the anticipation that marks the gathering faces before the mailboxes and then in the mingled frustration and satisfaction that soon results. Life is open to view as scores of people descend upon the dining hall causing the disappearance of much food to the accompanying at some facets of life as . bgl' babble of many voices. And even the weary face of the diligent student, his eyes still reflecting the Slow of burned midnight oil, also reflects the look of life. Perhaps it could be Said that this look of life is exhibited wherever people are.
