Beside the Timeless ripples of the sparkling Min- nemingo there stands a symbol of assiduous prepa- ration and dynamic force. The chapel steeple, a bold white protrusion into an infinite universe, sug- gests a stable growth and a devoted and directed proiection into the vastness of men's dreams. lt sym- bolizes sharp passage through the clouds of despair and the shadows of anxiety. Breakthrough - the symbol of forceful eruption from limited surroundings into unlimited potentialities . . .a line of progress, piercing the barriers thrown be- fore it, breaking through the suffocating shadows into the freedom of dawn . . . an eager projection into the intinitude of the future, fed by the energies of relentless sacrifice. A college awakes to a new day. The great barrier of academic recognition has been shattered. Beyond the satisfying present, however, lies a vast, limitless unknown. As in the past, we must respond to the future with enthusiasm and dedication. Sensitive to the basic purposes and ideals of the college and challenged by the demands of society, Messiah Col- lege will continue its breakthrough into the excite- ment of the new era. M , ,,,,c '

Messiah College aims to train young people to face the world with conhdence in their ability and in their Master. Increasingly, our students have sought to combine intel- lectual inquiry with the Christian perspective. Many influences have deepened and broadened the outlook of the college. As part of this endeavor to keep pace with the increasing desire for knowledge, Messiah College has not only expanded the physical plant of the campus, but also increased the number of fully qualified faculty members. But the growth of Messiah College will not stop here. There are other barriers we must pass if we would serve the present age.
