He is kept busy with his extra activities which are Male Chorus, Choral Society, Gospel team, Athletic Council, L. S. A. Vice-President, second semester, Clarion Annual Business Manager, second semesterg and also a mem- ber of the Quartette. Sincerity and cooperative individualism character- ize him. CLEON HAIGHT Cleon comes from Montoursville, Pennsylvania. He is taking the Christian Training Course in pre- paration for active Christian work. He is a member of Gospel Team, Male Chorus and Choral Society. 1-le is known for playing his vi- olin, his speaking and poetic abil- ity. His personality is portrayed by his good-naturedness, sincerity, and his fervency in spiritual life. ANNA JEAN HILSHEP1 A graduate of Elizabethtown High School, Anna Jean came to M. B. C. for her Junior College work. She is taking the Science Course, being interested in nurs- ing or in work as a laboratory technician. She is Class Treasurer, typist on the Periodical Clarion Staff, member of Ladies' Chorus. Choral Society and Gospel Team. Cooperative, unassuming and pos- sessing a cheery disposition char- acterize her. GLADYS KIPE Gladys's home is near Wayfnces- boro, Pennsylvania. She is tak- ing Junior College work in prep- aration for nurses' training. She sings second soprano in the Col- lege Ladies' Quartette, is a member of the Ladies' Chorus. Choral Society, Gospel Team and Missionary Circle. She is faithful and true to her many friends, mod-- cst, and diligent in her pursuits. ARVIE BURTON Arvie comes from Vester Ken- tucky, a graduate of the Colum- Lia High School. She is taking the Education Course and is pre- paring to teach the elementary grades. She is a member of Ladies' Chorus, Gospel Team and is Circu- lation Manager for the Clarion An- nual, second semester. Behind Arvie's quiet reserve lies potential- ities which only the future will reveal. MIRIAM HEISEY Her home is near Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. She is taking the Science course in order to prepare for Home Economics work. Secretary to the Dean, a member of Student Council and News Editor on Clar- ion Periodical Staff. Her capability, friendliness and diligence mark her personality. S. LANE HOSTETTER Lane is a resident of Grantham, Pennsylvania. He was elected presi- dent of the class but he was called by Selective Service to C. P. S. life at Luray, Virginia. He was also President of Male Chorus, a mem- ber of Choral Society, Student Council, Four Majors, H. T. A. president, and Circulation Manager for the Clarion Annual Staff, He is poetic, imaginative and thought- ful. ELIZABETH KINZIE Betty was a graduate of last year's Academy Senior Class. She returned from Dayton, Ohio, for her Junior College work and is taking the Christian Training Course. She is secretary of Hapantes and Student Council. Vice-President of her class, a mem- ber of Ladies' Chorus, Choral So- ciety and the Treblettes. She is energetic, efficient and coperative, a likeable girl possessing many tal- ents. Cllx' ARBIE DOBSEY Reverend Dorsey is pastor of the church of the United Brethren at Franklintown in York County. He is taking work in the Bible College in conjunction with his work as a pastor. He is a man who knows his mind, he knows how best to express it, his devotion to his work is an inspiratin to all who know him. He is also a member of the Choral Society. J. MELVIN HESS Melvin ' hails from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He graduated last year from the VVest Lampeter High School. He is taking the Science Course since he is interested in some phase of medicine. He is busy with Male Quartette, Male Chorus, Choral Society, and Gospel team. He is also the school mail boy. His personality is marked by the traits of good-naturedness, co- operativeness, and loyalty. WINIFRED L. I-IOSTETTER Winnie came from Clarence Cen- ter, New York. She is secretary to the Preiident, her uncle, is first alto in the College Ladies' Quartette, is a member of Athletic Council, a typist for the Clarion Periodical Staff, also a member of Ladies' Chorus and Choral Society. Her interests lie in the field of nurs- ing. Winnie is always cheerful and friendly. BLANCHE LANDIS A Patsyls home is in Des Moines, Iowa. She is taking the Christian Training Course in preparation for Christian work. Ladies' Chorus, Choral Society, Gospel Team and Circulation Manager of the Clarion Periodical Staff along with her commercial work for the Faculty and her lessons keep her busy. She has initiative and leadership ability.

5 1 CE 3 THE CLARION - 1945 COLLEGE FRESIIMEN 1945 MIRIAM LITTLE Miriam was a member of the Winter term group last year and having liked it here, spent her summer working around Harris- burg, then returned to school to enroll as a College Freshmen. She is taking the Education Course, preparing to enter the nursing and teaching fields and to do active Christian service in foreign mission work. Her home is in Dallas Cen- ter, Iowa. A willingness to work characterizes Miriam. GEORGE E. PAULUS, IR. George returned three years ago from India with his parents, who were in mission work there, and has gone to school here at NI. B. C. since then. He is taking the Bible College Course. His plans for the future are medical mission work in the land where he was born and which he has learned to love, India. Ardent and vigorous, he strives for the best life will offer him. IEANNE L. STAIRS Jeanne is the sweet little lassie whose home is in Clarence Center, whose good-naturedness, loyalty, and unassuming nature are destined to help her always have friends. She too is interested in teaching and is taking the Education Course. She is a member of Ladies' Chorus, Choral Society, Gospel Team, and the Missionary Circle. She is also the girl from whom to buy supplies -she is our store keeper at the stu- dent store. ANNA M. MEYER Anna is another former graduate of M. B. C. who returned for col- lege work. Her home is near Mer- cersburg, but she has spent a great deal of her life around Grantham. She is interested in Dietetics and therefore is taking the Science Course. Unassuming, quietly co- operating in worth-while causes, but behind her quiet reserve lies a cheery disposition. She is a mem- ber of the Gospel Team and the Nlissionary Circle. FLORENCE SISCO Flossie, having been graduated in '43 returned this year from San- dusky, Michigan, to join the Col- lege Freshmen class. She is taking the Education Course and is plan- ning to become a teacher. She is generous, thoughtful and helpful, society's good friend, and will always deserve and have many friends. She is the Religious Editor of the Clar- ion Periodical Staff, a member 'of Ladies' Chorus and secretary of Choral Society. ANNA VERLE MILLER Anna Verle is also another one of the many persons here at M. B. C. taking the Educational Course because of her plans to teach. She also is an alumna of M. B. C. Anna Verle is associate editor of the Clarion Periodical, class secre- tary, a member of Choral Society. Ladies' Chorus, Gospel team, and besides all this, she does very fine Work in her classes. Her home is near Mill Hall, Pennsylvania. DONALD SMITH Don has been a resident of Gran- tham for the past nine years, going to high school all four years here, and then enrolling as a College Freshmen this year. He is a mem- ber of the Male Chorus, Choral Society, Gospel Team and the Mis- sionary Circle. Don has a philos- ophy of life all his own- Happy am I, from care set free. Why aren't they all content like me? JOY ZIMMERMAN Ioy was a member of last year's graduating class and returned to begin college work this year, her home is in Chicago. Her interests lie in the field of music and there- fore she took the music course. She likes to sing and play the piano. Joy makes anyone's day far from dreary with her laughter. She is a member of Ladies' Chorus, Choral Society, a typist on the Clarion Periodical staff and a mem- ber of the Treblettes. C235
