Nations rise and fall. Economic and social life is completely revolutionized in a short span of time. Ideals totter and fall. Ideals once most productive become barren and unfruitful. That which was valued yesterday is worthless today. The useful today may be needless tomorrow. The unexpected and impossible suddenly become fact and what was apparent security fails under the test. In these days of fading values and tremendous change how vital is this mes- sage of scripture- now abideth faith, hope, charityf, These will stand the test of time in a changing world. Faith, not blind credulity, but faith in a sovereign loving God who is our Father, hope, not an unreal optimism, but a hope based upon the person and work of Jesus Christ, love, not only for our kin and country, but the sacred unquenchable flame kept burning in our hearts by the Holy Spirit-these abide through all earth's changes. Faith, hope, love-they change never and will not crumble. They will give anchorage and poise, will enable us to face reality purposeful and confident. At Messiah Bible College we recognize the importance of abiding spiritual values. The changeless Christ and His matchless salvation make us adequate to meet life's experiences in a changing world. -Pres. H ostetter. six C. N. HOSTETTER, JR. Qewliu ,iw , C. N. HosTET'rE1e. Jn. A. This school year has been a very prosperous year for the Junior class. The big event of the year was the Junior-Senior Banquet and it was fun preparing for it. Among our group we have: one who aspires to be a Princeton student, a young poet, a splendid nurse, a promising baritone soloist, a radio technician, several re- markable pianists, a minister and other talented members. Wilmer Haas, although this being his first year here, has served as president. Esther Sollenberger, after an absence of one year has returned and served as vice- president. Our secretary has been Mary Kathryn Stern and treasurer, Lane Hostetter. Our capable counselor has been Professor lVlusser. As a group we all hope to be back next year and we look forward to the Senior year with the hope of having others with us. twenty In the fall, three nen students joined nine of last yearis Freshmen to make an even dozen for the Sophomore class. With the Sophomores. it is quality and not quantity that counts. Our class ofhcers have Ineeu: John Niesley, presidentg Harry Mann, Jr., vice- presidentg Mary Helen Krayhill. secretaryg and Dorthy Myers, treasurer. Mr. and Mrs. Civler have been our counselors. Last fall the class entertained the Freshmen with an outing. Later the Freshmen entertained the Sophoniorc-s. Both occasions were times which will long be remem- bered by both classes. We are looking forward Lo a larger class next year and are anxiously awaiting the time when we shall return as Jolly Juniors. We, the Freshman Class of '4-2 wish to express our sincere appreciation for the delightful time we have enjoyed together as a class both in and out of the classroom. The highlights ,were the exchange of entertainments between the Sophomores and our- selves. We elected as our class olficers, President, Richard Minterg Vice President, Simon Lehmang Secretary, Ruth Brubakerg Treasurer, Miriam Heisey. We also wish to express our deep appreciation for our counselor, James Bru- baker, who served in a Civilian Public Service Camp during the last semester. It is with great anticipation that we look forward to becoming Sophomores. twenty-two mZw7mm Wfe the Winter Term students have appreciated the opportunity of attending the Winter Term session. All ol' the members of the group felt that they were six weeks well spent and in most c-use-s the time seemed to be over too quickly. 'QQFF' Our class has been vnriclied by the presence of two home missionaries and two foreign missionaries, and by our faithful teacher Mrs. John Climenhaga who has served on both the home ann! foreign fields. We are thankful that Nl. l3. C. sponsors a course like this. It has given us an in- spiration to go forth in our home communities to live better Christian lives. It has given us a deeper nnclerslannling ol' the Word of Cod and has been helpful in Chris- tian work. . This plan was heartily endorsed by the alumni at their annual banquet June 1941-1. How DID IT S'r.un'? The Board of Trustees named a Living Endowment Council to plan and direct so- licitation efforts in order to raise the non- student income of the College to an aver- age level of 312,500 each year. This council includes Harold S. Martin, Elizabethtown, Pa., President of the Alumni Association, C. Z. Musser, Cran- tham, Pa., member of the College Faculty, Bev. Boy H. Vllenger, Carlisle, Pa., mem- ber of the Board of Education of the Breth- ren in Christ Church, Benjamin E. Thuma, Marietta, Pa., representing the College Board of Trustees and President C. N. Hos- tetter, Jr. VUHAT is THE PLAN? I. There are no pledges: Members are asked to sign no pledges. but an attractive membership certificate is issued to each member indicating the num- ber of membership units held. II. Wim! is a U nit? Each unit of membership calls for a gift of 35.00 per year to Messiah Bible College. Each 355.00 is thought of as 5fXp annual in- come on 551.00 principal which the donor is keeping invested for the college. III. When are payments made? Payments may be made annually, semi- annually, quarterly, or otherwise and on the dates indicated by the donor on the ap- plication card or letter. IV. Period of membership: It, of course, is hoped that membership may be permanent. However, membership is purely voluntary and may be discon- tinued at any time upon request of the member and surrender of the certificate. V. Cancelling Membership: Any member finding it necessary to withdraw from the League is asked to recommend two friends of Christian edu- cation who may be prospective members of the League. VI. Reinstatenzerit of members: A member who for any reason has found it necessary to cancel his member- ship, may again become a member by re- questing the issuance of a new certificate and the payment of the dues for the current year. VII. Adaptability: By way of summary, the elasticity of the plan is shown by the fact that a member may do any one of the following regard- ing his membership: tal Continue it as it is, tbl cancel it completely, tel decrease the number of units, tdl increase the num- ber of units. VIII. Life Membership: The plan includes a second option for members who desire to make their entire contribution at once. Hence, at any time a person may endow his membership thus becoming a life member by paying the principal amount indicated by the num- ber of units held 13100.00 per unit.l What is the relation of the Living En- dowment League to other financial assist- ance? The Living Endowment League shall not grow at the expense of other methods in supporting the college. The student Foun- dation Fund shall continue as heretofore. Contributions to the Endowment Fund either as outright contributions or annuity gifts shall be continued as heretofore.
