To be a honor student, captain of the drill team, and a National Merit Semi-Finalist, you would think that you would have to be smart. To some it is a gift from God, as it is for Belinda Smith. Belinda had been a member of the National Junior Honor Society for four years. Then she moved on to be in the National Honor Society for two years. To be a member of N.J.H.S. or the N.H.S. you had to accomplish a grade point average of 5.5 and Belinda had seemed to accomplish that. Belinda had also been a member of the Student Coun- cil and was the President also. The Student Council is a group of 43 people who are voted by the student body to represent each class of the entire school. Out of everything Belinda had accomplished she was nominated to be a National Merit Semi-Finalist. This is the acception of the PSAT test that is taken in October along with a high verbal status. Even though she did not get to go to the Finals, Belinda has a half paid tuition to Baylor University. When you looked at Belinda you saw a girl who had accomplished her dreams and even other dreams as well, in her stay at Mesquite High School. We wish her the best of luck in the future , Q wt' 1 26 Seniors 'TITV

At school, Michael Yee was perceived as a quiet, solemn, yet a hard working student. Although his personality did not make him stand out very much in the classroom, his soccer skills set him aside from many other athletes. Despite public apathy toward his selected sport, he was inspired and driven to be one of the best, that was what Michael became at Mesquite, one of the best. Standing above a group of many, he played varsity for three years. He was a superior player offensively as well as defensively for the team each year. By using his exceptional ball control on the playing field, he left behind a bewildered opponent and a cloud of dust. Upon graduation, Michael plans to attend college and play soccer as well. His skill was not limited to acquired talents, but also included the ability to control his will. Michael Yee exemplified the words of the great American poet, Ralph Waldo . Emerson, Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you. M-'Y' zilftb , Wi' Z ' QW! i, Q X J ' egg it ' ' g. ' ft S. M, ifktq l Seniors 25 1
