Senior, Alton Chaney won the Golden Gloves many times. ln 1982-83 he won the Golden Gloves. Also, in the same year he was the State Golden Gloves Semi- Finalist, the National New Mexico Runner-up, the state amatuer boxing federation runnervup and he ranked 10th in the Nation. His record was, in 1983, 179 wins and only 20 losses. ln 1984 he was the Golden Gloves Champion and state G.G. SemiAFinalistg where he won 3rd place! Alton would like to go to Ll.T. Austin, but will probably settle at a Junior college. lt is hard to get a scholarship in boxing, because only armed forces have boxing teams. What was it when everyone went to the auditorium to hear Country and Western music? lt was the Sunshine Boys, spon- sored by the Student Coun- cil. The cowboys, the teachers, and yes, even the hard rock fans went to hear them. Performing twice, once for the freshmen and sophomores, and then another time for the juniors and seniors, the group sang songs such as Lady Down On Love, The Closer You Get, by Alabama and Sw- ingin by John Anderson. They sang an oldie for the teachers.
