There were no push-button telephones, pick-up trucks, color televisions, or elevators. The work was done by hand, not by machine, and calculating was left to the brain, not the computer. Even without these technological triumphs, the colonists of 1776 have not been forgotten. They had the courage to break their bonds and declare their independence, and we respect that courage today. In this Bicentennial issue, the Mesquite-O looks back 200 years to the first colonies of the United States. Colonial life of 1776 is compared to Mesquite High School student life of l976.
