Spirit invades MHS During Mesa-Westwood Week Spirit comes in all shapes and sizes, from the whiskers and pink noses of MHS students to the burn- ing of a Westwood Warrior. What else could be the most spirited week at Mesa High? Westwood Week began with Rabbit Day, with whiskers on every nose. Crazy Hare Day followed, as students enthusiastically frizzed, wired, and colored their hair to show spirit. Wednesday was Stomp 'Em and Color Day, including the traditional Bury the Hatchet Lunch- eon, consisting of Mesa and West- wood Student Council members. Following Color Day was Old- Fashioned Day, in which students dressed 1950 style. Then came Fri- day, Funeral Day for Westwood. Throughout the week, a dead West- wood mascot dangled from the flagpole, speared by a huge carrot. To relieve it from such misery, the poor warrior was buried, following an exciting pep assembly. To top it off, MHS students gathered at the dirt mound to watch the Westwood mascot be viciously burned at the stake. Traditional activities through the week certainly helped unite the stu- dents in an explosive spirit which was so evident at the game that night. Mesa lost to Westwood in a heartbreaking defeat of 54-21. M HS spirit, live on! flj Students look on as the Westwood mas- cot burns at the stake. Q21 Contestants for Stomp 'Em and Color Day sing and dance as they compete for the spirit award. Q31 Headstones are displayed on Funeral Day for two unfortunate Warriors. Q43 A silent Westwood Warrior hangs from the flagpole. Q53 Rick Koberna and Kim Kerstetter set fire to the dead Warrior following the Funer- al.
