Before Labor a e Earliest Start Ever! Alarm clocks went off earlier than usual on August 27 and Mesa High students began school before dove season, before Labor Day, and before the days began to cool down. As afternoon temperatures soared above 100, more than one Jackrabbit thought of a long, cool dive into a pool. G Figuring out schedules, greeting old and new friends, and finding classes were activities marking that firstweek. Opening assembly started the spirit moving with Juniors and Sen- iors reviving the class yells that had lain unused over the summer. Sophomores listened in amazement and made plans for their own cheer. Cheerleaders taught some new chants and the Bunnies danced to a '40's tune. The Student Body looked on as the new Student Coun- cil was sworn in by Mr. Dant. Ev- eryone joined in with the Hare Band for school songs and Mesa High I973-'74 was initiated. As the year wore on, extra days of sleeping in during Easter va- cation was the reward for this year's early starting date. Clj Coach Reed Peterson lays it on the line to the Varsity football team during the first sports class. Q35 Clouds form the backdrop for spirit signs welcoming MHS students back to another year. C63 Opening day excite- ment invades the Cafeteria and Joni Price, Randy Shank, Karen Kyle, Scott Pomeroy, Vickie Church, Dawn Rickey, Cindy Ecds, and Joli Johnson make their feelings known.
