Yes, life it- self began, according to some biologists, in the pri- meval sea, a thousand million years ago. The United State's two nuclear powered submar- ines continue to break records with each voyage. The Nautilus will long be remembered for her voyage under the Artic Icecap. The sea has also added much to the literature of the world, both fact and fiction. Hans Christian Ander- son captured the hearts of many with his fairy tale of the Little Mermaid . The sea has also written many of the pages of history. Bold and daring were the words used to des- cribe the pirates who sailed the briny deep. Much of history is incomplete, for the sea is selfish and holds the answers to many of the world's questions. Such is the make-up of the sea. She offers the es- sentials of life and yet, brings death to those who dare defy her. On the following pages you will find some of the phases of the sea's personality. Read, learn.
