G um K11 n amu n L u ll I ln I Pm: an n 1 lf anyone heard moans and groans comtng from th drrectlon of the Norwood athlettc fretd durlng the fall of 1945 they werent surorrsed because they knew they were only part of the efforts tftat the Htllsdale lllgh School football team put forth rn some of thetr more strenuous practrce sessrons But one 111 fated day therr moans were of woe and mrsery Roger Oberlm one of the star players had rust broken a bone rn hrs leg rn a pre season practrce game wrth Montpelrer Tnrs unfortunate accrdent meant conslderable shrftrng of posltrons rn the backfreld Moose FTUISY regular quarter back was assrgned to the left half posrtron left vacant by Obe 11n Flywerght Royal Hames lumped 1nto the quarterback spot These two fellows along wrth sprtntmg W1111e Polkow Rabblt Davrs and Carmy Luedemann all letter men and all rrght halfbacks and plunglng Tom Btldner rugged fullbck comprlsed the backfteld Wrth thts backfreld behlnd a strong llne bolstered by crappy Dave Percy Lanlus rrght guard and 11m Coppeler center both two year lettermen and both rough and tumble football players everyone thought that Hrllsdale had the team of teams They st111 thought so when they steam rollered over MOFSDCI to a 320 vlctory The next game was a wet blanket thrown on the hopes for an undefeated season ln a drrvmg ram the 1-lrllsdale team turned to ducks but were defeated by the duckrer Albron team by the score of 6 0 Htllsdale traveled to Coldwater the next week and out played them on thetr home freld but came out the short end of a 21 7 score After a hard week of practlce Htllsdale rated T oJans lt was all Hlllsdale at frrst and half 1-llllsdale was outscored 207 and lost thrs On October 17 1-lrllsdale was the guest 1-lrllsdalrtes defrnrtely off form were downed traveled to Sturgrs for a game Wrth the hrgh the score at the half was 13 6 ln the second tmrd conference game 26 20 of Adran ln a non conference game The 25 fflontmued on page H41 page 68 x if A 1 , ' -f 1 .
