Concerts provide entertaining change of pace. Once in a while comes a time for exchanging blue jeans for tuxedos and long dresses. No, it is not the Se- nior Prom, but Merrillville ' s frequent concerts. These con- certs never fail to thoroughly entertain their audiences. Titled Season ' s Greet- ings , the Christmas concert included both the band and choir. The groups performed both traditional and more contemporary Christmas se- lections. Soprano Vickie Evans captivated the au- dience with the solo O Holy Night . The Spring Band Concert featured the band ' s contest pieces which they performed the next weekend in com- petition. They received a first place and it was easy to see why. The lively tunes showed off the musicians ' ability to play well together. The Spring Choir Concert, I Return to Music delighted the audience with songs by concert choir, Vocalteens, Velveteens, and Girls ' Glee. They returned to music by performing the music from different eras. The 1940 ' s, ' 50 ' s, and ' 60 ' s came alive through the clever costumes and dances. The students in all of Merrillville ' s concerts spend many hours of practice and hard work to bring their audiences moments of de- lightful entertainment. Corky Christoff, Rick Wilburn, Jerry earman, Doug Robinson, Larry Adams, and John Burrus work off some nervous energy before the Christmas concert. Flutists Jeannine Kacmar, Cheryl Pall, and Sandi Leone accompany saxaphone players Mike Brown and John Davies. An aerial view of the band during its spring concert shows that all is in order. 20

WINTER: When the snow first fell back in December, all the skiers started polishing up their skis. But after those first few inches of snow melted away, 40° weather followed for weeks. Then finally on January 24, the snow came again, this time to stay. The Ski Club could finally go on its cancelled ski trips and plan ahead for more. The snow continued to fall and it looked like winter was finally here. I i T YLK32 THINK SNOW 22
