Although the accomplishments of the 1960 Pirate var- sity squad did not match those of the previous season, the team’s play gave the student body many exciting moments. Working and fighting to overcome the handicaps of being undermanned, inexperiences, and badly crippled by injuries, the Pirates ended their season with 1 win, 2 ties, and 7 losses. Pirate spirit, throughout the campaign, never failed to show itself. The team’s only win was a 14 — 7 triumph over River Forest, a non-conference rival. The ties came against East Gary Edison and Lowell. However, it was the Wirt game, that the team, play- ing highly inspired football, gave its supporters its big- gest thrills. Despite the season’s record, Head Coach Richard Demarree and Assistants Don Patz, Lloyd Ahlbrand, John Stefek, and Lafery Armantrout look forward to the return of many underclassmen with game experience. 26
