,Class History What? Did you say you wanted to know about the Class of Fifty-one? Well, I'll tell you all about it. In the fall of 1940, six small children seemed lost standing in the doorway of the first grade at Meriwether Lewis School. This being the fir st day at school they didn't know what to do so they started crying as if they had lost their last friend. Katherine Patterson, the girl with real long pigtails, fair complexion and blue eyes, was one of the six. Katherine was the studious type and always came through with flying colors. Jim Gibson, another who has been with us for eleven years, is a very small boy who is always getting into some kind of mischief and getting caught. Jim has very cute ways and always has funny things to say. His ability to tell tales gave our class many happy hours. Mary Ann Gibson, the light-haired girl with pretty blue eyes also started with us. She is a very quiet girl and is always willing to help everyone. She is very fond of reading.. Whenever we couldn't find Mary Ann, we knew to look behind the covers of a book. Nellie Cash was also one of the six who started with us. She is a great friend of Mary Ann's and she has naturally curly hair. Aleyce Price, the blonde-haired girl is one of the big six. She is one of the bashful- type girls, but she has changed during the eleven years with us. The other little girl who started at M. L. S. was me. I had long dark hair and big brown eyes. I found my greatest interests in athletics. I couldn't let down the reputation of my brothers and sister. We were found the next year in the second grade. By now we had gotten accustomed to our school and teachers and began to like it much better. No one joined us that year. We found that the nine short months of school had ended too soon and summer vacation was here again. Our next great step was the third grade. This is another year no one joined us on our journey through school. In the fourth grade we found a new member had joined our ranks which we were very pleased to have with us. The cute little boy with dark complexion and hair who always had funny interesting things to say was none other than Peter Morris. Peter, in his seven years with our class, hasn't changed a bit. He might well be named the Romeo of our class. Lewis Harmon also joined us that year. Lewis has real pretty dark wavy hair. He has kept us cheerful with his wonderful singing. We were very glad to have him with us. As we entered the fifth grade room, we found it like the second and third grade. No one had joined our group to make the journey with us. This year we were very proud to have Miss Adams as our teacher and we all thought a lot of her. 17
