BOARD0 TRUSTEESM Mr. B. I. Carfer, jr. Senior member of the Board of Trustees, was elected by the Board to succeed the late Dr. Charles A. Ray as presi- dent of the Board. Since 1929 Mr. Carter has served loyally on the Board. Complete control of the public schools in the Meridian Sep- arate School District is given to the Board of Trustees by state law, which lists among its duties the employment of superin- tendent, principals, teachers and all other school employees. Composed of five members, the Board meets monthly or oftener as occasion may require for the purpose of attending to financial matters. The state law also provides that mem- bers be selected by the mayor and commissioners of the city government for four and five-year alternating terms. Re- quirement for membership is that a person have children in school in the city at the time of his appointment. Members of the Board are President B. Carter, Jr., Mr. J. B. Melton, Mrs. I. A. Rosenbaum, Mr. M. V. B. Miller, and Dr. T. G. Cleveland. Superintendent H. M. Ivy serves as secretary to the Board. Mr. Melton, second in order of senior- ity, having served nine years, is the vice-president. Mrs. Rosenbaum and Mr. Miller have both served four years. Mrs. Rosenbaum, a leader in P. T. A. Work, is probably the mem- ber most in demand as a speaker. It was she who helped choose the color scheme of the Senior High School-Junior Col- lege Auditorium. To Mr. Miller much of the credit is due for beautification of the campus. Dr. Cleveland, who is filling the vacancy on the Board caused by the death of the late Dr. Ray, is the newest member, having been appointed in Jan- uary. Dr. T. G. Cleveland Mrs. I. A.
